    Default No audio over HDMI

I just opened my boxee box and hooked it up and I am bummed out I have no audio over HDMI.

    Here is my setup:
    Boxee box -->HDMI -->Sony Receiver --> HDMI --> Projector

The receiver has worked great with Direct TV and PS3 without any issue all over HDMI. I have tried using the ports that I know work and no audio. I have unchecked and checked all the bitstream outputs. Did a factory restore and still no sound. I can get audio out over the Red and White cable but my receiver will not let me use the HDMI and RCA's at the same time. I can hear sound when I unplug the HDMI cable but it dies out when I plug it back in.

Please help me this is a large paperweight.

Optical also doesn't work. The Receiver will only let audio come over HDMI when it is plugged in.

Well, you may need to be more patient than a couple of hours. I think most of the Boxee team that visit these forums are all asleep at the moment.

It's also possible that the Box has a hardware failure, it may be worth RMA'ing.

Do you get sound if you plug it in directly to the projector? (Er, is that a stupid question? Do projectors have sound? Sorry, just trying to throw out some ideas... until someone from Boxee can show up and possibly help)

Thank you for comment. I have not been able to try it out on anything else because I don't have anything else to try it on.

What the Boxee People don't stay up all night =) I will try to be patient.

    What is RMA'ing?

It looks like I am having the same issue as these people

No worries, it sucks when a new toy doesn't work out of the box (ha ha), I know!

RMA: "Return merchandise authorization" -- have it exchanged for a new one.

In your shoes, I would try the things in the last post by dconti (Boxee guy) and follow up with a post there...

I agree. A lot of people seem to be having this problem, and it largely seems dependent on the receiver or switch being used. We probably need a place to consolidate these hardware compatibility problems.

There are problems industry-wide with HDMI output devices and receivers/HDMI switches working properly. It's by no means just Boxee that has compatibility problems in this regard.

Sometimes the audio is dropped, sometimes the video is distorted, sometimes it won't work at all (no video OR audio) when it should, sometimes you have to unplug the device and plug it back in every time you use it or you get nothing.

I suspect it has to do with a lack of standardization on how HDMI passthrough and handshaking is handled. The HDMI spec itself is more or less adhered to, but there are probably half a dozen or more methods of managing and handing off multiple HDMI devices to a single display, and all of the big receiver manufacturers (Sony, Onkyo, Yamaha, etc.) all seem to have different ideas on what's the best way to do this.

And, of course, consumers pay while they bicker behind the scenes.

I have my own HDMI issues (not with Boxee Box thankfully) but with my cable provider's set-top box -- the handshaking gets screwed when I have set-top box -> receiver -> TV and the SD Override setting in the set-top box is constantly getting reset to a bad default. Hate it. Would hate HDMI too except that it works for everything else I have (well, can't connect the Boxee Box to my TouchSmart's HDMI input but I won't go there )
