Default Do I have a bum network card? Update takes forever.

Updating to 1.0 (yes I did a full reset to see if I could fix my loading issues) takes over 300 minutes to download. Is that normal for everyone else? Using the same network cable/connection on my netbook I can get around 8 megabits/sec download speed, so I don't think that's the problem.

Also, updating cover art and title-searching for my 50 movies took around an hour. Opening a movie over the LAN takes about 10 minutes and then it can't even play without immediately choking and trying to load.

Is there something wrong with the network card on my Boxee Box?

    Pretty bummed about this.

    Thanks for any help,
    b.

I updated to v1.0 via WiFi earlier and it took maybe 2 min. It sounds like you have some network issues.

Well that bums me out. Thanks for the super speedy reply though. Anyone know how I can check/assign a fixed IP to the Boxee BEFORE it updates?

If I remember right there is a static IP setting in the "settings" menu. Try to unplug your router (to disable the WiFi signal), configure the Boxee with your static address and plug the router back in after Boxee is configured.

Actually, I wasn't using wi-fi before. Decided to give that a try so I unplugged my LAN, went to connect to my wi-fi and it says something like "connected to wi-fi but could not connect to internet." Sooo, I plugged my LAN back in and tried to manually set the IP but it won't accept any IP addresses. Went back to wi-fi and stole a neighbors connection. Same message. Tried ANOTHER neighbor and it worked. Got through to the dashboard (version .9) and the internet sources seem to be working.

Still need to figure out how to get the LAN working though...

Update: I was able to get on my own wi-fi network and internet sources work alright but I can't get through to my DNS-323 NAS over wi-fi.

Tried the cable that runs to my XBox360 (that I play games on and watch network shares, so I know it's good) and I get the same behavior as before: I can see my NAS, I can see that the internet stuff is there but it takes forever to browse it or access any of it. Internet sources take forever to load.

    Anyone have ideas?

Wanted to update in case anyone else was having a similar issue. It turned out to be a bum hub I was using in my living room. Replaced with an old router I converted into a switch/hub and everything's fine now.
