    Default First issues / confusion

I am a big fan of the boxee software but I have few issues with the Box that other threads of touched on, but I cant find definitive answers.

First off, my biggest issue, is that my movies ripped as Video_TS folders are not showing up. ISO's are just but none of my 200+ movies in folder structure are. Is there something I have to enable for this feature? They play just fine in the file view but do not appear in the movies view.

I understand that hulu was dropped as a content provider which I think sucks, but it also appears that USA network, FOX network and a few others are no longer available either. So basically, none of the shows listed in my favorites (House, Burn Notice, Fringe) are available with any online content. Can someone confirm this?

I also understand they separated online content from local content, so maybe I am just looking in the wrong place.

    Can someone help clarify this?

I have no experience with the whole _TS thing so I'm afraid I can't help you there.

Fancast is the current replacement for Hulu; once Hulu+ becomes available (and if you subscribe) those shows should show up again.

Local content is under Files -- though on a per episode basis if the online episode is available, it will show up as a choice as well.

I know this doesn't help with your current files without some conversion but you should consider using MakeMKV to create mkv files of your discs instead of just copying the video_ts folders.

It's possible that the naming of the folders is preventing them from being recognized. Have you looked at this thread for some guidance?

Use MediaInfo to see if your TS folders are encoded with supported codecs

    (H.264 AVC (TS/AVI/MKV/MOV/M2TS/MP4)\
    VC-1 (TS/AVI/MKV/WMV)

And I would highly recommend what ingoldsby suggests (MKVs) and MakeMKV is as good as it gets for ripping them -- but since you already have 200+ movies, that will be a hard call

The ISO's could be mounted in a virtual drive and then run through MakeMKV - but to redo the TS folders to MKVs you will need to run the original DVDs in MakeMKV

If you don't have AVC or VC-1 TS codecs, then MakeMKV may look more attractive

I have the video_ts folder problem with the previous boxee version (.9) running on my PC. If you move the files from the video_ts directory up one level and delete video_ts, it should work.

Fancast is ok but a bit limited. My question is why are all the networks blocked as well? If hulu was down, you could go to fox, or cbs, there were always multiple sources. Without access to multiple sources, boxee looses its edge.

The files are not .ts, they are direct dvd rips in VIDEO_TS folders. These folders are recognized fine by boxee software but not the box.

I mis-typed earlier, the ISO's play fine and are recognized in the movies section, but none of the straight dvd rips to folders.

I hear a lot about converting to .mkv's but I am very tired of another process to be tweaked and tested. I have had lots of bad conversions, but I have not had a bad dvd rip in quite a while.

srewots, I just tried that and it recognizes the movie then, but I can only play the .vob files, not the .ifo files

I can play them as a disc (video_ts.ifo) from the files view, with ripped files playing just like a dvd with menus and everything.

I think an update is required to have the movies section recognize a VIDEO_TS folder as a valid movie format. The box can play it, but the scrapers are not recognizing it as a valid format.

VOBs don't seem to be a priority for boxee. If you scan the forums going back a year or so, it appears to be a on-again, off-again problem.
