Thread: Does The Box Have A Local Database?

Default Does The Box Have A Local Database?

I'm just wondering does the Box have a local DB of all your own media somewhere? Whenever I first turn my Boxee on and navigate to my local movies or shows, it seems to take a while for the cover art to show up. I see lots of spinning icons. After it's been on for a bit all is good. Anyone else get this?

And another thing...when does the box do it's media source scan update? When it's in sleep mode or only when it's on?

I installed the Boxee software on my PC to try it out before I got the Box. So far my profile size is 180MB of DB, cache and thumbnails. And I don't have tons of media either.

I'd like to know how much local memory this thing has and if it's scraping for thumbnails every time you turn it on or if it keeps it local.

Scrapes every time from my understanding. They need to place a repository on an external storage source to speed this up. You can always just leave it on.

It has 1GB flash for everything. It doesn't cache art work all the time due to space concerns. Otherwise all meta-data is downloaded only once.

being able to point to local network stored database would be ideal.

Its likely almost everyone who will have a boxee box will also being access network shares. So allowing Boxee to save its db on a device on the same network would significantly reduce these meta data lag issues. Not to mention you could then use the boxee database editors (found on this forum) to clean the db up, just like some of us currently do in the PC version of Boxee.

Not very happy with the differences between the BB and the PC version so far....hopefully things improve...quickly

its got 1gig of RAM and a 1gig flash

it stores a list of your local content in a database on the box, but checks the cover art each time you access the list. This is standard behaviour in boxee - the same thing happened in beta and even alpha.

A network stored database would be ideal, even storing it on a USB stick or HDD would be good. I think this would be a good feature for a future update. I don't really want to leave it on all the time.
