Thread: So is anyone happy with the Boxee Box?

Default So is anyone happy with the Boxee Box?

I ordered 2 months ago I am still waiting for delivery (yes, thank you Boxee) and am anxious to check out the device but am totally disappointed from what I hear you guys going through! I mean at this rate I may as well grab the WD Hub to replace my WD Live HD or go back to my HTPC (which is just too big, Antec HTPC Case). I'll give the device an honest try but I thought this was going to change things and it isn't.

Anyone out there totally happy and blown away by the boxee box?

    Default I love it

Personally, I love my Boxee box and have no idea what everyone is whining about. I got mine on Nov 10th and it got upgraded a v9 firmware. While this was nice, it was not suited as well to the remote, and had some bugs.

I got the 1.0 update on the 11th and loved the changes they made. I really don't understand what people are saying when they say they cannot find their own media. Once the sources are setup, its easy to find your own files. No harder then it was with 0.9, possibly even a bit more intuitive.

Of course, I never used the old boxee application. i heard of boxee on nov 8th when i was looking to buy a media streamer for my pc and though this looked cool and had a nice price point. i can understand that for a bunch of people set in their ways with the 0.9 version of the application, they cannot conceive of the menu being moved from the left side of the screen to the top...

Having seen only a bit of the old vs new interface, i like the new one. Its cleaner with a more polished look. it makes more sense to me. its views content in a much better way. I have had no problems viewing the 400+ media files I have stored on a windows 7 shared folder on the desktop (even though its password protected) across a secure wifi channel.

DOnt watch a lot of foreign movies, so no subtitle issues here. if thats a concern of yours, then i guess a bit more effort will need to be put into it.

So far, boxee box is the best product i have seen that does everything I want it to do.

    To the whiners:
"i want my hulu! wah wah wah". go download it on bittorrent if you really can't wait for a few days. what did you do before the boxee box? was it better? go do that instead.

I believe Jtl opinion will for the most part be the general population that have had no experience with the Beta as well. People HATE change when they get used to something. If we had the 1.0 for months and they changed to to the .9 wed be hearing the same complaints (can we change it back).

Agreed...they really should have released 1.0 before the launch

I really like the box, but it does have its problems. Give it a couple weeks and it will begin to shape up.

Got mine about 2 hours ago. So far no problems. I also like the new interface. It found my shares without issue. It's streaming all my different files beautifully. So I'm really happy right now.

I picked the BB up on wed and used it that night. Loved it! Also I had never used a Boxee product before. Then Thursday I turn it on and update it. Hate the thing now. All my content is hidden away and since I am in Canada there is next to no streaming video for TV and especially for movies. I was not at all used to the .9 version but from the day I used it I could tell it was a lot better then 1.0

I LOVE my BB as far as hardware.

I like the 1.0 interface design and all but I'm having some of the issues/bugs others are having.

I would have or would just like the option to opt out of an upgrade so I could use version .9.

I'd rather wait a few weeks or a few months until Boxee irons out all the issues then upgrade to 1.0

    Thats my biggest gripe.

I think you mean "thank you, Amazon" or "thank you, D-Link". Boxee has done its part by delivering software as scheduled.

and am anxious to check out the device but am totally disappointed from what I hear you guys going through! I mean at this rate I may as well grab the WD Hub to replace my WD Live HD or go back to my HTPC (which is just too big, Antec HTPC Case).
Keep in mind, people are 100 times more likely come here and ask for help (or just plain rant) than they are to rave about something. This is primarily a user-to-user technical support forum and so the "problem" posts will always outnumber the "I love Boxee" posts.

Anyone out there totally happy and blown away by the boxee box?
Yes love it, will be getting a second TV just for it.

All things considered I think Boxee box was solid purchase. Wireless streaming allows me to have more flexibility to where my TV now is. I am also a fan of the remote so far.

It has edges but so does a world class sports car. I do not regret the pre-order or overnight shipping.
