Default Boxee Box 1.0 general GUI discussion

I wonder if the 1.0 release was a consequence of performance issues? I hope they offer the option to choose between old an new interface in future FW releases. long shot though.

edit: can some mod please move this to the boxee box category. sorry.

    Default Failing the W.A.F.

Biggest gripe? No one click access to local media and music.

I set up the Windows software (v0.9) for my wife on the computer, and the boxee software passed the WAF test (Wife Acceptability Factor) so I went ahead and pre-ordered the Boxee Box.

Now, with version 1.0 having to navigate through several clicks to get to Local content (we're outside the US, so most of the online content at this stage is not accessible to us, I expected that, I ordered the Boxee Box mainly for handling local content) the Boxee Box is now struggling to pass the WAF.

Boxee - if my wife gets annoyed with it, it's going straight back (remember: happy wife, happy life) - please let me stall her by assuring her that this oversight will be addressed soon!

THIS. what drew me to boxee (and subsequently the box) is the fact that it was a TOTAL MEDIA HUB, able to access all types of media whether it music, video, photos, etc all in one place, with equal emphasis. pull up the menu and chose content type. simple. now with the boxee box, im seriously reconsidering.

also, all these reports that the new interface takes more UI actions to do the same thing are worrying. i hope this is just an initial fuck up and they will bring back total functionality, as in NOT clumping all local media simply as "Files" with a generic list, but full features sections for each media type, with more focus on local. after all, most of us are gonna be running our local media through boxee. at least thats what i always hoped for, only for them to switch their direction post-launch

MODS/BOXEE TEAM:: what has me going is this: "Music / Photos: We’ve really focused this version of Boxee on video. With that in mind we decided to push music and photos into the files menu until we give it a little more TLC." - from the boxee blog. can we get confirmation that Music and Photos will get their own sections on the main menu, instead of the generic FILES category? ETA if possible?

I wouldn't hold your breath. Local Movies arent even accessible outside of "Files".

"I wouldn't hold your breath. Local Movies arent even accessible outside of "Files"."

Actually they are (at least in canada). I checked it out.

Select movies. Press down 150 times... no, i'm not joking.

Local content is shown at the bottom of the streaming media.

That is utterly UNBELIEVABLE. We can thank boxee's "content partners" for this I'm sure.

This is what happens when open source projects go corporate. Bye Bye Boxee, old friend.

Looks like i'll be using version 0.9 for a LONG time.

ridiculous. why has boxee decided top shun local media files? just to push their partners content? what about the people? we want our files easily accessible, not an after thought. after all, WE are the ones supporting the product!

Does anybody know if boxee (box) dev's read here? They better release a statement about the redesign. Before this rides the big "web-2.0-social-media-wave".

I wonder why they released a beta that looked and worked so wonderful and intuitive, just to release an 1.0 that's the complete opposite. Why confusing the user. What was the betatesting for?

I really believe content providers had a big influence in all that GUI redesign.

Yes they are. I have "21" and it shows up as the fourth movie, after two online movies and second local movie.
