Default Boxee Box & MKV subs

I've tried several different files with embedded subtitles and no subs show up even after fiddling with the subtitle settings. Anyone run into this problem/a fix?

Default I'm having the opposite problem

Subtitles on some MKV files are on by default and cannot be turned off (the OSD subtitles menu is greyed out and pressing 'T' on the remote doesn't do anything either). I'm assuming this is a bug but it's quite annoying to have to watch movies with the subtitles on....

Have you confirmed you can get the subs to show with another player?
Some .mkv files you download through the tubes have hard-coded subs. Meaning the subs are on the film just like the actors are.
Some .mkv don't have subs at all. It can be hit and miss.

The subs are on by default on boxee box with 1.0 software. They cannot be turned off on most .mkv files (the subtitles option is greyed out). When I test the same file on my desktop with boxee software (version .9), the subtitles are not on.

It is clearly a boxee software issue, not hard-coded subs on the .mkv file.

The original poster is saying the subtitles don't show up, not that they don't go away.

Do you know what format the subtitles are in? I have several DVD rips with vobsub format subtitles, and they don't show up for me.

i posted this in another thread (there's a few about subs not showing up in mkvs)

i noticed that if you have the overscan settings to anything but 0% the subs will not show up.

try changing overscan to 0% and you should be able to see embedded subs... (this is a bug that i hope will be fixed promptly)

If you look at the sticky of known issues in the boxee box forum, this is a known bug. I imagine it'll be fixed soon.

Some people mentioned that this occurs when you're accessing your MKV's via uPnP rather than SMB.

I figured that couldn't make a difference but tried accessing the same file via SMB and was able to turn on and off the subtitles.

Problem solved (but it's still a bug that needs a-fixin'....)

    Cheers

Without overscan being set to (0,0) on both corners, streaming via SMB does not improve the situation. With overscan set to (0,0), embedded subtitles will appear while streaming via SMB.
