Thread: Ubuntu 10.10 / Nvidia Ion / vdpau

Default Ubuntu 10.10 / Nvidia Ion / vdpau

    Hello all,

I'm attempting to get Boxee running on a 64bit Ubuntu 10.10 installation against an Nvidia Ion chipset.

I have gotten vdpau to work with gnome mplayer fairly well, but boxee doesn't use vdpau.

Strangely, sometimes in Boxee I see the option to enable or disable hardware acceleration, and sometimes the option isn't even present (as in it doesn't show up at all, enabled or disabled or otherwise).

I was hoping to hear a success story from someone else running in this configuration. I'm a bit stumped.

Pressing 'I' during playback of a h264 encoded mkv file shows:

    D(Audio: ac3 48000 Hz, 5 Channels, s16) P(aq:99%, kB/s:370)

    D(Video: h264, yuv420p, 1280x720 P(vq:82%, dc: ff-h264, MB/s:2.2 ...)

I have tried with both the 260.19.06 and 260.19.12 Nvidia drivers without luck.

    Thanks in advance!

I have this setup except 32 bit. Sometimes you have to disable acc then leave boxee then enable , leave and come back for it to "take"

No luck there either... same result. What version of the Nvidia drivers are you using?

Just the Nvidia drivers that come with Maverick

I have it working successfully, using the NVidia drivers in Maverick, but have not completely working in terms of eliminating the horizontal tearing.

What I did to get it to work was set everything in boxee to 'vpdau' rather than auto.

    Do you need more info?

Good advice, but let me expand.

    1. Uncheck the box for "Use hardware acceleration when available" This will un-gray the option below it, which probably says "auto"
    2. Change that option from "auto" to VDPAU.
    3. Exit boxee
    4. Launch boxee
    5. Make sure it's still set to VDPAU, and re-check the box for "Use hardware acceleration when available"
    6. Exit boxee
    7. Launch boxee
    8. ???

Forgot that part. Boxee requires libvdpau1 in addition to the nvidia drivers

    Code:
    sudo apt-get install libvdpau1

I got it working with 10.10 64 bits on a nvidia ION, I installed:
    - libvdpau1
    - vdpau-va-driver
    - nvidia-current (260.19.06)

I also kept "Use hardware acceleration when available" checked.

For the tearing, I checked the vsync option on nvidia x-server configuration (there are 2, checked both) and set "vertical blank sync" to "enabled during video playback" on Boxee.

I also installed mplayer which installs some other media dependencies, but I don't know if it really helps.

    I have also done:

I have done the above but still getting tearing.
