Default Copy files to boxee box local HDD

I was wondering if it was possible to copy files from the computer to the local HDD that is connected to the boxee box, instead of having to unplug the HDD every time i want to add a new movie.
i know i can stream movies from a network share on my computer but i don't want to stream i want to play from local HDD.

Yes, you will be able to copy files over your network to the Boxee Box external drive from another computer.

Ah, so the Boxee Box will act as an SMB/CIFS server? That's the first I've heard of this. Neat!

    Very interesting!

Could you please elaborate on the sync process Darcilicious?
Is there an auto sync mode or will I need to select individual files or folders on the TV and ask Boxee to copy them to my external HDD?

    Thank you!

I'm a little confused by your follow-up question.

You asked, "I was wondering if it was possible to copy files from the computer to the local HDD that is connected to the boxee box" and the answer to that is yes.

I'm not aware of any built-in sync mode on the Boxee Box and I'm also not aware of any way to initiate a file copy from within Boxee. If you have a HDD connected to your Boxee Box, you can copy files TO it from another computer on your LAN. You would do this from your computer, not from Boxee.

There are also sync programs that would run on your computer that would probably work to say, copy all the files in a particular folder from your computer to the HDD on the Boxee Box.

    Does that help clarify?

That would mean that the boxee box would be able to act as a server on the internal network right?
or else you would not be able to map into the HDD from your computer's explorer.

    EXAMPLE: \\boxee box ip\drive letter?

    is this assumption correct.

Now its my turn to be a little confused!

I'm a complete newbie when it comes to LAN and networking.
Beeing able to easily transfer files from my computer to my boxee box over wifi would be extremely convenient... but how will it work?

    - As far as I know, there is no WiFi on the "Western Digital Elements 2 TB External Hard Drive" I want to buy.

    - If I understand Darcilicious correctly, since I will connect my External HDD to my Boxee Box (on Wifi N mode), my local area network will "see" my hard drive and I will be able to send files from my Desktop to my External HDD using WiFi this way. Is this correct?

Will it be as simple as that?
As far as I know, I currently don't have a LAN at home since I don't have any wireless device besides my router/computer. Will my computer automaticaly create one when I will turn the Boxee Box on?

    Thanks for the help!!!

Yes, that's how it should work. Software on the Boxee Box will let your other computer(s) on the LAN see the external drive connected to teh Boxee Box and should allow you to copy files to it.

Here is what I found on the internet :

"Only SMB and AFS (HFS+) supported for network storage as of now (No NFS / FTP etc.)"

This means you will be able to map the device on a Windows computer through Samba just like any other network storage device, and if the drive is not mapped you will be able to use \\ip.address\ through the explorer to connect to it.
