so it becomes possible to resume playback where you leave off. I'd like to leave a 1.5hr Frontline doco, and come back to it the next day right where I was.

Boxee already does this. How are you watching Frontline?
I'm not aware that it does this with videos viewed in apps ....only local content.
I've seen netfix do this on boxee, but only for the time it's left running. If you restart boxee or the PC you lose that resume feature.

judgeschambers, you are actually correct, well partially. I've been battling with this very thing with the application I am developing for boxee. Yes it does remember and no it doesn't. It depends on how the information is streamed.
According to Boxee it does this no matter how the content is stream, at least the last time I asked, but in actuality it works like this ...
Boxee will not remember last position for anything streamed like over http.
However Boxee will remember anything that it actually has access to the file, so for example a SMB share. My app for MythTV + Boxee, when I setup files to be accessed via an SMB share Boxee remembers even through a restart.
The only thing I haven't tried is if Boxee will remember if it directly access a file via http vs some sort of streaming mechanism sending the file through an http connection.
Does that make sense?
I apologize for my first comment, I suppose it wasn't entirely accurate.
Better support for remember for all content that gets played would be great.![]()
Yup, you nailed it. I found that out too a ways back.
Yes, additional support to maximize that feature no matter what the content source would be very cool.![]()
