Okay, that sounds exactly like the experience I'm having now. I was hoping you'd had better performance with the internet streamed flash content. But if you're experiencing the same thing I am then I guess I haven't done anything wrong with my configuration.

Maybe I'll check out that "Square" Beta and let you know how it goes.

However, I'm seeing that's for the 64-bit flash version of the flash player. I don't suppose that'll fix anything if I'm running 32-bit Ubuntu.

OK. Just wanted to say a huge THANK YOU. I dared to upgrade a year old Boxee installation because I wanted to see XBMC Dharma and of course ruined every little setting.

Got everything almost there on my Revo 1600 but could not get audio working. This is it. Thank you both for your posting here.

Running Boxee and XBMC Dharma on Lucid. Used your advice above to uninstall Pulse. Used your asound. In XBMC, I have:
    Audio Output Device: Defaults (ALSA)
    Passthrough: Custom (plughw:0,3)

    In video:
    Render: Autodetect.
AV Sync: Video clock (Drop/Dupe audio). Everything is checked.

    For Boxee.
Audio and passthrough are set to default. Out is digital.

    In video - advanced,
Enable hardware assisted decoding is NOT checked.
Render method is set to VDPAU.

This results in both XBMC and Boxee pushing audio through HDMI w/DTS/etc, and also using VDPAU.

Really, this is more posterity when I forget how much time I spent on this and try to screw with the settings.

    Thanks again guys.

Default Ubuntu Revo 1600 ALSA No Audio

My hard rive is making whining sounds and the computer is unable to boot up.

With the side cover of the case off, I can hear the hard drive rev up and then it suddenly lowers rpm, it may rev up again or it might not, it will attempt to start if I do a soft or hard boot.... but, either way, the computer is unable to fully boot up.
Is there any means I can use to extract info from the drive?

I am running an old version of Ubuntu on a machine that allows just 512MB of Ram

Also, what is the key stroke to boot up Ubuntu in what Ill call : safe mode ?
