Is there a way for me to share the internet connection from my macbook (3g dongle) to my atv so I can scan my external hard drives content ??

If your card and/or provider allow it you can setup the card as an access point which should grant wireless access for other devices.

thanks - how do I do that?

is it possible to scan the external drive with boxee on my laptop and then transfer the data file with the duck thing ?

Assuming you can set the card as an access point, your mac will be another device on your local network. You will need to make sure you have sharing enabled on your nas and devices you need to share. You have smb and afp to choose from.
