    from the XBMC forum:
    1) Open terminal
    2) type: ssh frontrow@AppleTV.local
    3) type password: frontrow
    4) type: sudo bash -c 'echo "127.0.0.1 mesu.apple.com" >> /etc/hosts'
    5) close terminal

Thanx a million. I thought ssh was more complicated. I did get this message:
The authenticity of host 'appletv.local (192.168.2.105)' can't be established.
    RSA key fingerprint is bf:19:7...
Are you sure you want to continue connecting (yes/no)
    I answered yes, then:
Warning: Permanently added 'appletv.local,192.168.2.105' (RSA) to the list of known hosts.
Welcome to the AppleTV (via atv-usbcreator) It asked for password again. Is this OK?

Yes, this is fine. SSH handles encryption by exchanging keys with the host. If it doesn't already have a key on file for the remote host, it tells you that is saving it to the list of known hosts.

Hmm my Apple TV didn't auto update even though I never disabled it. I do have one of the newer ATV's, I wonder if it doesn't auto update with the newer versions? I have a selection in the menu to manually update.

Either way, thank goodness! It doesn't seem like there's much to the new update anyway aside from streaming to other Apple TV's and some remote learning feature that allows you to use your other remotes.

Yeah, mine didn't update automatically either (one of the original boxes), but I stupidly updated to 2.3 just before trying to install boxee for the first time, and now it won't recognize the patchstick. It skips right on to the startup movie. Serves me right for updating software all knee-jerky like. Too bad, though, I was really looking forward to checking boxee out. I'll stay tuned for when you guys can figure this out.

Question: Does this prevent manual update from working?

I don't mind disabling auto-update, but I just needed to know if I have to remove that line from the hosts file before manually updating.

    Thanks.

Yes that line will make it so the appletv cannot connect to the apple update server at all; even with the manual update. You can always edit that line out in nano once boxee is made to work with 2.3

Default Disable ATV auto-update option within Boxee?

Since it appears to be very simple to disable the Apple TV auto-updates, perhaps adding that as an option within the Boxee/XBMC interface would be an option, eh?

I too was bit by the AppleTV updating itself before I knew to do anything about it. Oh, well. Lesson learned.

I had to restore my apple tv to get boxee back anyway to just goto 2.2?
