Default Choppy Streams from Flash Based Content

    Hi all,

I've been a low-key Boxee user for months now, but I preodered the Boxee Box and wanted to re-familiarize myself with Boxee's software. I'm completely satisfied with streaming content within Apps, but when I browse the TV show library and find a show, I seem to be having issues playing any streaming flash content through Boxee's browser. So far, I've tried watching shows through Comedy Central, Hulu, and Adult Swim. The audio is fine but the stream is choppy from Comedy Central and Adult Swim, and Hulu's content wont go to full screen, wont allow me to stop it, and plays back somewhat choppy when it finally loads. Any suggestions or reassurances that this will not be the case with the Boxee Box would be appreciated!

    My specs:

    Windows XP Home Edition, SP3
    MSI P55-GD65 Mobo
    Intel Core i5 CPU 750 @ 2.67GHz
2.99 GB Ram (stupid 32 bit OS)
    NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS
    Creative SB-Xfi Fatality sound card

I'm using my monitor for viewing, and I'm directly connected to my router. (I've streamed content from the same sources via firefox with no issues, so it's not a faulty connection that's the issue).

    Thanks!

    Hi lukad, Welcome to Boxee!

With the recent announcement of the switch to the Atom CE4100 processor I would think the Boxee Box will be more than capable of handling Flash video.

The system you are using now is capable of doing the same, however the bottleneck for your success with Boxee is Windows XP. It used to work OK back when Flash was at 10.0, but the security fixes and other 'enhancements' in Flash 10.1 broke things for XP. If you switched to Win 7 or Linux(both have support for GPU accelerated Flash) I would think the choppiness would go away with Flash video(ie. Hulu, etc) on your system.

Good Luck and enjoy your Boxee Box!

I figured it was XP. It used to be a solid OS ... 3 service packs later, it's terrible. Thanks for the help!

It's not terrible, is outdated, old, and probably obsolete at this point. Why people like to update their IPhones to the latest iOS but sticks with a 10 year old OS on their PCs??

I'm having the same problem with flash in boxee, strangely flash through a browser works fine.

Does boxee use some strange version of flash?

No, it uses the Flash plug in for Firefox. Please describe your system so the forum can help you troubleshoot your issues.

Everyone, everyone says, "strangely flash through a browser works fine."

I think I need to write a detailed announcement thread and point to it everytime this comes up...LOL .

Boxee uses a lot of system resources (CPU, ram etc). As a result, computers running boxee must, must meet the minimum requirements to run stutter free flash in boxee.

Please read the First STop link in my sig for all the Windows details to provide a smooth boxee experience.

Not meaning to sound acrimonious, but not all of us have the 99$ to throw at each of the 3 HTPC's we have built from scratch to throw 7 on them. I am considering getting a technet subscription to remedy this.

Having said that I am certainly willing to live with the flash issues as I can stream 720p content (xvid) from my media server in the basement over samba just fine. And having free access to my music throughout the house is also a dream come true.

Thanks for a great project. It has brought me and my family much enjoyment.
