Thread: Numerous video stuttering and sync issues

    Default Numerous video stuttering and sync issues

    I'm going crazy trying to sort out what I think are numerous separate playback issues.

    Firstly my system;

    Boxee v0.9.21.12563M
    Ubuntu 10.04 64bit
    Nvidia driver 195.36.24-0ubuntu1~10.04
    Xorg.conf is the very basic one regenerated by nvidia-xconfig
    nvidia-settings cleared

    Different videos exhibit different problems influenced by my refresh rate 50 or 60Hz (as noted) and some issues are apparent in other players i.e VLC where noted.

    DVB-T recording played as a regular file
    Boxee 50Hz = stutter after 10min, audio out of sync
    VLC 50Hz = fine

    DVB-T recording played through Boxee MythTV source
    Boxee 50Hz = audio drifts out of sync and never catches up
    Boxee 60Hz = fine
    VLC = fine

    HD MP4
    Boxee = fine
    VLC = fine

    R2 DVD
    Boxee & VLC 50Hz = consistent stutter every second, noticeable in panning shots
    Boxee & VLC 60Hz = intermittent but infrequent audio breakup and random stuttering

    R2 DVD iso rip
    Boxee 50Hz = fine

    Any suggestions welcome.

    Thanks

    Do you have libvdpau installed?

    If you've directly modified the guisettings.xml file (e.g. not through Boxee) then it might be best to start fresh until you get your playback issues sorted out.

    I don't think it has been modified outside boxee. I'll rename it out the way and do some tests.

    Hrm... well, I've done the obvious bits -- someone with more experience with the Linux version will hopefully chime in now

    Could you please post some more info for your system specs:
    Processor, RAM, Video Card, etc. and how you are connected to the internet.

    Also would be helpful if you could attach the specific video file you playing when this happens.

    I am assuming you have the latest Firefox and the 10.1 Flash installed.

    I am using 9.10 but somehow have a newer version of libvdpau1 than you are using. It's at 0.4.2 , so you might want to try to update that package (libvdpau).

    FYI there is a newer version of Boxee (0.9.22.13692) online now... you might want to give that a try.

    Ok so I've updated to the newest version;

    Stuttering R2 DVD playback - ripped the same disc to an iso and the stuttering is not apparent, I'm putting this down to the long ide cable I've just fitted to the drive.

    Sync issues with DVB-T MythTV recordings - Audio doesn't drift now but is still out of sync but correcable with a -0.175 delay. Video was still not perfect but changing the deinterlace method from auto to bob solved this. Can I save both audio delay and interlace method on a per source basis, i.e just for mythtv recordings?

    The only remaining play back issue I'm seeing is an mpeg file I have which was originally recorded by mythtv (but isn't 'in' the backend any more i.e the file has been removed) It plays fine for about 10mins when it starts to stutter badly and become very jerky with out of sync audio. Plays fine in VLC.

    I'm seeing the 'fine for 10mins and then bad stuttering' on DVDs now, will raise a bug as mplayer doesn't show any problems with the same file.
