    Unhappy No live-tv like xbmc

Tvheadend is a TV streaming server for Linux supporting DVB-S, DVB-S2, DVB-C, DVB-T, ATSC, IPTV, and Analog video (V4L) as input sources.

XBMC uses the htsp protocol to communicate with Tvheadend.
By adding an entry for Tvheadend to the sources.conf I was able to choose channel and watch live TV.

As Boxee is XBMC-based I did the same with Boxee, but no live TV!
It just says "Disconnected" when I go to manage sources.

    Why doesn't it work?
XBMC can do and as Boxee is XBMC-based, Boxee should do it as well, right?

Boxee is a really great application, but it's really disappointing not to support htsp for live-TV while xbmc does.

    Default

Boxee is not really xbmc anylonger. It shares the core programing, but after that not even close any more. So, no apps or plug ins from xbmc work in boxee.

Boxee was designed primarily to watch local and streaming content at first. (Not necessarily live content.) But, there have been some specific additions lately for Live TV and some more are on the way.

    Default Give tvheadend a try!

    Of course, that's right.
Boxee is not XBMC and internet media will be the future.

I'm using IPTV which is not very easy to get going without the providers set-top-box; with vdr and a plugin I could not get it working, with tvheadend it was quite easy.

I have 90 tv channels and at the time there is no internet platform or application that could reach at least haft of this varity.

    Have a look at tvheadend.
It's really a great piece of software!
Very stable, genial web interface, tagging for channels, recording, streaming and a lot more.
In xbmc I could access it, like a folder; the tags were right there or I could select from the full list of channels.

Maybe somone could code a plugin or just make some modification in boxee for communication over the htsp protocol.
    Because boxee rocks!!

    Default Try MythTV

Boxee is able to connect to a Myth Backend and can select Live TV channels similar to a Myth Front-End. You have to manually add the Myth config to Boxee (I think sources.xml - search the forums), and the program schedule isn't viewable through Boxee, but tuning a live channel does work.
