Default Preserve the media database when upgrading...

Is there a way to preserve the media database when upgrading?

This is the first time that I've got a full working library of files setup just right... however I suspect I'll lose most customization when upgrading..

Early on it was necessary to do a clean install, which meant losing the local catalog/database. However, starting with the most recent release, this is no longer necessary and you should be able to do an "in-place" upgrade without having to delete your current catalog/database.

Going from the previous release to the current release without doing a clean install seemed to work at first with the database intact.

However...loading the videos listed leads to a "loading bar" staying on forever...

May have to do a clean install after all...

Yeah it depends really on the system whether you can "get away with" an upgrade or not to your local database. I personally just do a complete wipe and install fresh every time, setup my sources, and let Boxee run overnight to index everything. We're still in beta so it's one of those necessary evils that I don't mind that much, because it doesn't happen that frequently.

However, Darci is right that you should be fine for the most part. Could you upload and link to us a copy of your boxee.log so we can see what's stalling the loading for you? It won't immediately fix the problem you're having but it'll let the developers get things working better for a future release.

    Thanks!

Marcel stated as of the last build that a clean install was no longer needed. That you could leave your userdata file and boxee install in tact and install the new version on top..

When I installed the last update on top of my current isntall, the installer deleted my userdata folder and I had to reindex anyway. No biggie as like DPK, I typically like to do a clean install by deleting my userdata file. But thought I'd give it a whirl...

Installer might have done that as sort of a standardization point. Installs from this release forward might be perfectly fine, but the setup needs to make sure that we have a common userdata directory so that is possible.

    My theory anyway.
