Hello all,
I've searched the forums for different variations of 'Boxee Server, Media Server etc...' to no avail - so sorry if this is a dupe.
I have a couple of Boxee clients in my house which all hit the same Ubuntu server for Photos, Music and Videos (TV Shows and Movies). My video catalog is ~6300 files if the count in Boxee at the lower left of the 'My TV Shows' screen is accurate - I don't know if Boxee users here would think that it is a lot - doesn't sound to large.
My problem is that all Boxee clients thrash the server for the 20+ television shows each day to find new episodes that may/may not be available. Watching my Samba logs, I can see Boxee hitting my Ubuntu server everytime I bring up 'My TV Shows'. It seems to be pulling directory listings for series that I haven't even clicked on in Boxee. On top of this, it takes about 30 seconds to one minute for 'My TV Shows' to list. I do have a lot of 'unidentified' shows, - around 300 which may be the cause of this. I have around 50 directories that I set up as Media Sources in Boxee to scan 'Once' , while all others are set to scan 'Daily'.
With all that said - lets get to my point. Is there any work being done on a 'Boxee Server'? Something that could run on an Ubuntu/Windows server and have all Boxee clients in a house connect to it for the Local media information? This way you could have one server maintain your local media and have Boxee Client work it's magic combining online video with local media.
I see this as something similar to the way that Boxee uses sites like CBS/NBC/Fox etc... to scrape the listings of TV shows - it's just that these are all local to a small network.
If this sounds a bit far fetched - or if there is another option, I'd love to know so that I can both speed up 'My TV Shows' listing and also take some burden off of my poor file server.
Thanks!
