hi
One of my videos was quiet so I had to turn the tv volume up. Then I noticed that when boxee plays the selection sound there is a prolonged hiss after the sound plays.
The sound for navigating doesn't have this noise.
Also, this suggests 2 new features.
1) the boxee sounds should be played at the current playback volume, OR a global "sound effects" volume. I like to have the tv volume high and keep the playback volume at 60-70% so I've got a bit of give. But this means the boxee sounds are far too loud.
2) Either a) real-time normalization (which would have to be intelligent. Have a fast Attack medium Release for the first, say, 10% of the video, but then fix the volume for the rest of the video, that way you don't lose the dramatic effect that large changes in volume have) or b) per video normalization which is remembered between watches (but this could be painful to set) and/or c) allow the audio to be amplified (ie the volume can go above 100%) but reset to 100% after the video is finished.
I'd prefer 2a as I wouldn't have to do anything. Of course it doesn't apply to music (maybe at the album level not the individual tracks.)
What do you think?
