Acer Aspire Revo Ubuntu 10.04 No sound

I just did a clean install of Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and installed the latest Boxee for linux. Everything is working fine except mkv files. Video is coming through fine, however, there is no sound. Other types of files and online streaming work fine. Any ideas?

just found out that switching audio from digital to analog makes the sound work. Anyone know how to get it to work with digital audio turned on?

Probably have to play with the sound settings inn Boxee .
I have hdmi out , I set mine to pulse audio , but I don't use the system sounds . I think some have probs with pulse , I guess because of the system sounds .

Do you use HDMI , optical , etc ?

I'm using HDMI.

maybe changing the digital audio format (Dolby / DTS / PCM or AUTO?) on your TV/AV-Receiver for the HDMI-Input you connected the computer

those HDMI-Settings are really puzzling sometimes... but maybe MKV or your specific MKV file has only AC3 sound and your TV is set to DTS...

Found this site, great setup instructions. Worked like a charm for me.

go to System → Preferences → Sound, click on the Hardware tab. Under Profile select "Digital Stereo (HDMI) Output + Analog Stereo Input"

Press the right arrow until an entry named “IEC958 1” [UPDATE on Ubuntu 10.04 this is called "S/PDIF"] is highlighted and make sure it is not muted (it will have “MM” displayed above it). If it is press “m” to unmute it. Press Escape to leave alsamixer. If you try the sound tests under Sound → Preferences → Sound you should find that they now work.
