Default Is there a full GUI remote?

I have boxee set up in a single room but have a receiver that allows me to put a couple of speakers in an adjacent room.

Does anyone have any ideas around setting up a remote (phone, webpad, otherwise) that would allow me to see my library and control it without the use of my screen?

You're looking for something beyond a simple remote and really need a "remote desktop" application (there are a few for the iPhone, etc) so that you can remotely and fully view the screen on Boxee computer. That is, if I understand your set up correctly.

You can also find out how to Get Help or read the Boxee TV and Boxee Box Documentation.

Not entirely. XBMC has remote apps that do exactly what he asked. Basically they give you a library view on your device and you can select what to play that way.

I use it all the time for my outdoor speakers. I can select any song in my library without seeing the TV.

I don't think boxee has any support for this, but I do know the XBMC remote guys (specifically the Android ones) are shooting for boxee support.

I've wanted to develop something like this for boxee, but the current api is pants and the wiki states that a new one will be developed. Unfortunately, there are no details available on how this api will work (yet), and I am not interested in investing tons of hours making an application to work with an api that is set to be replaced.
So for me, it's currently on hold.

Yes, this is what I'm looking for.

A remote desktop is a good idea, but would be a bit heavy weight for my phone (BB) and I'm also looking for something that will display relevant to the form factor rather than scrolling around a large screen via a very small phone.

Thanks for the info on XBMC.

Red face Idea for full boxee GUI remote

Remote Desktop (MSTSC) doesn't work with Boxee since it uses OpenGL. It'd be like trying to play a video game over terminal services.
So that's out. VNC perhaps? I haven't tried that but like he said it's a little heavy.

I really do want this functionality since I have near 400 DVD's and BluRay's that I sometimes need to have boxee look up to assign the title / IMDB information and there's no way to do that with the iPhone interface or any other and it's just a hassle doing it from the couch.

I have even gone as far as creating a separate profile in XP that I can be logged into at the same time (it's a hack for XP) and tried to run 2 boxee sessions, but boxee uses a bunch of HKCU keys and profile specific settings. I am a Wise Software Packager by profession, I could re-package the application to use different keys and folders but I don't know how the application would react.

It would be a better solution to come up with a web console into boxee's database that could run simultaneously because then anyone could write a quick web interface for any device at any resolution. I think something for an iPad would be killer.

    :-)
