Thread: TED missing video, others ok!

Default TED missing video, others ok!

    Hi there
Playing youtube or trailers or engaget etc, all works fine, but TED plays the audio only... sometimes with a black screen and sometimes with just the yellow Now Playing bit on the top right over the TED links page.

I have tried removing my settings, uninstalling boxee, reboot, reinstall and it still does not work. I had it working last week and since then have installed Divx player (uninstalled that today) xbmc (uninstalled today).

I imagine it has somthing to do with those, but have uninstalled them and reinstalled boxee, so DK why its not working.

Help much appreciated, TED is my favourite!

What version of Windows are you running and what video card?

I have the same issue with TED on my Win-7 Atom/Ion, which bums me so. I luv TED and have to use my cheesy XP machine to view them.

    Hi mate,
    yep,
    I have win7 (32 bit) and Atom/Ion dual core (Asrock ION 330HT)
Did yours EVER work? Mine did till I loaded Divx and XBMC.
Did you load either of those?
    Cheers

No, I've never installed either Dvix or XBMC (on this Win-7 machine)

No, TED has never worked on Boxee on my Revo 3610 Win-7 64.

Works fine on my XP box with Boxee.

    hmmm interesting
If TED works now, I will definitely check it before and after installing XBMC (actually I know very little about XBMC and dont know if there are any advantages for me other than it seems you can browse a DATA DVD to pick a divx file on it, unlike with Boxee where you cannot browse a DATA DVD.

    speak soon

Same problem here with ion/Atom win 64 Boxee beta latest build. I have Jira on it. This is one of two last bugs for me on Boxee. I so wished it was fixed.

Playing a TED video just laggs the machine bad! I'm not sure if it's a Win-7 deal or what. My XP machine and ATV play just fine.

It could be the app itself and the player it triggers or the feed. Not sure. It's just a simply RSS app. I'll see if I can get the feeds somehow and look at the what it's done.

    Hi JudgesChambers

Nope, not win7, boxee plays TED fine on my win7 pc downstairs.
My win7 config is AMD 64 3700+, and a pretty old Asus A8N motherboard... so nothing very fancy or new!

I may have made a mistake about seeing TED working on my system because I have just REINSTALLED WINDOWS and everything else (groan) and TED is not working on my Asrock... so its something to do with this build of boxee WITH that Processor/motherboard?

    Catcha later

I"m not so sure it's the "build of Boxee" just yet.
This could be the Ion Video Driver + encoding + player that is playing the stream.

I did some looking into the TED app feed:
    The app uses- http://feeds.feedburner.com/TedtalksHD
Which is a HD 480p mp4 video file.
It plays perfectly fine on XP with an old GF5200 card.
On Atom/Ion it plays audio only and lags the machine
Now, if I take that same HD feed and plunk it into one of my Test apps, I get the same results. (I did this because I found a subtle difference in how the official app was configured and wanted to test in my RSS app)

Now, if I get the SD feed off of the TED site and plunk it into one of my Test apps: http://feeds.feedburner.com/tedtalks_video
It too is an MP4 vidoe file. It plays full screen in Win-7 Ion. It's lower resolution, but it works.

So, I'd have to look more closely at the TedHD 480p mp4 file and see how it's encoded. This may be the key along with the ION driver.

I also want to download the 480p file and play it in MPC-HC 64 and also through Boxee via file browser to see if there are any differences.

    STay tuned.

Thumbs up Boxee RSS Feeds is BACK!

Ok, I found there is a difference in the encoding of the HD mp4. I'm not an encoding expert to know why, but the stats on it are slightly different between the SD file.

Also,I tested the HD MP4 file on the win-7 ion with MPC-HC 64 and it is audio only too. So, it's not a boxee issue!!! This is an NVidia / Ion driver issue. I'lll still file a report with support to see if they can get an alt feed from TED that would alleviate the problem and get HD back.

I was just informed with Good NEWS!

The Boxee RSS feed app is BACK.
Go to App Library and search for RSS. Add it to My Apps. Now Go to your profile at Boxee.tv and go to feeds. Now paste in the SD TED feed: http://feeds.feedburner.com/tedtalks_video

Bam, you're watching TED on Atom/Ion & Boxee!
