Default Boxee beta and ATV not working

I am unable to browse or play my media using beta Boxee and ATV.

After installing Boxee Beta I went to Media setup and choose network drives for mounting. When I was doing this mount using UPNP I got two options one was Video and second one was actual directory structure. I choose to use Directory structure for the mounts and marked the mounts to contain Video.

After this I went to the main menu to watch for movies, Nothing appeared. Tried to browse for movies, nothing appread. (Got message no files in the directory). Went again browsing for movies using UPNP and got to the movie files (which are in ISO and MP4 format) clicked on them and nothing happens.

What I also notices is that in setup after sometime it shows that my network drive is not connected? Which is strange because I am able to browse the same network drive using browse from movie menu.

This used to work great with Boxee Alpha but does not seem to work with Boxee Beta

    Anything I am missing here?

    Thanks,

    Sandip

To work the problem we need to know a little more about the environment.

    1. How did you install Boxee on your Apple TV? With what patchstick?
    2. Tried any other videos, AVIs or anything?
    3. Is Boxee playing video from the local disk?
    4. Have you tried a restore?

Launcher, Apple TV Firmware and Boxee Beta versions please.

    Thanks

I installed boxee using download from the menu. The patchstick I have does not have Boxee but allows me to download boxee from launcher menu

I only have ISO and MP4 format videos and tried both of them but didn't work

I haven't tried putting the video on local disk.

    How to restore?

    OK,

What patchstick did you use? Boxee is never installed directly from the patchstick, but xbmclauncher is and this is used to download Boxee as you say, but this is not what I'm asking. Where did you get your patchstick from?

Can you please try another video file that is say AVI? I asked if you would play something off the local disk to see if it was a network problem, so do that please.

Restoring can be done with Settings > General > Reset Settings > Factory Restore

For patchstick I followed instructions on this page (sometimes in January) (Ya boxee is not working for me since January)

    http://support.boxee.tv/forums/49598/entries/42684

To verify if this is a network problem or not I ran XBMC accessing same netowork resources and it worked properly. (No problems at all). I can still try to put some of this files on local drive. Can you suggest absolute path to the default directory that Boxee looks for Video files. I think it is different from Apple's local directory.

For AVI format I will have to get some conversion software that can convert files to AVI. Something I can try out later today.

My apologies I misunderstood when you asked to reset. I thought you were talking about resetting boxee, didn't realize you meant resetting Apple TV. I did reset apple TV couple of times and loaded boxee. I even followed instructions that asked me to remove old Boxee software before installing new one and none of this worked.

I really appreciate your help in resolving this issue.

    Many Thanks,

    Sandip

To be honest, you haven't really told me anything.

You used the atvusb patchstick. Great, what version, for what platform?

Running a video across your network with XBMC does not prove anything. Yes it proves your network works fine -- but presumably this was obvious from the fact you downloaded and installed Boxee. I meant is it a network problem in Boxee.

Please check if you can play a file from HDD in Boxee - you are talking about Boxee, but trying stuff in XBMC

Go convert some AVI files, or download some free sample clips.

    Still haven't told me:

    Apple TV Firmware
    Boxee Version
    Launcher Version

Maybe slap a debug log on pastebin -- then we can see what's going on when you try and play some files.
