Default Flash Player non-beta works better than Flash Player beta in Boxee??

Well, I have spent a few hours trying to get hulu to work well in Boxee.

    Pentium D 2.8
    2.5 gb ram
    Windows 7 64bit
    ATI 4550 PCIE 512mb DDR3
    Latest version DirectX, updated, everything

It's crazy, but the only way hulu works decently in Boxee is installing
Adobe Flash Player version 10.0.45.2 . When I use the Flash Player 10.1 b3, hulu and other flash videos are not watchable in Boxee

This makes ABSOLUTELY no sense given that Flash Player is not hardware GPU accelerated when using the non-beta player install

    Any ideas??

Perhaps everyone who is having Flash player issues in Boxee should try the NON-beta Flash player? (which is what Boxee beta installer installs BTW)

I think this is an ATI issue or combo ATI/Boxee issue myself.

Most Nvidia and ATI users are not seeing this sort of thing. (disclaimer-with soooo many drivers and hardware, yes some may see this, but most do not)
If someone is experiencing this, and one goes to a non-beta flash, you better have a bad ass CPU or it may lag.

Boxee beta installs Flash 10.0.45 because not all video cards are compatible with Flash Beta. If I install Flash Beta on my older XP box with an Gforce FX5200 vid card, it plays ALL video with blue dots and pixels.

I did another test. I re-installed Flash Player 10.1 b3 plugin for firefox. I am able to use Flash Player 10.1 b3 in Firefox 3.6 to watch hulu without any issues (same goes for IE). Only in Boxee does this appear to be a problem with hulu.

It seems a lot of people are out there having issues playing hulu inside of Boxee. I can't say whether or not Nvidia or ATI cards have more or less problems, my read seems to be both are having issues but perhaps one is worse than the other. In any case, it's all moot given my test in the browser. My personal guess, there is something wrong in the Boxee beta because if it was an ATI driver issue then Flash Player in the web browsers would also be terrible and not just in Boxee.

Guess I will submit this to Boxee support.

I'm sorta confused by the "re-installed Flash Player 10.1 b3 plugin for firefox."

I installed FFox on my Win-7 machine and did nothing more. Did not install a dedicated FFox Flash install. I had Beta 1p installed already on the machine. Flash video played normally using the already installed flash beta whether using IE or FFox.

How are you installing Flash Beta ON Ffox direct? I ask, because I've not seen this available and should not have to do that. Just want to better understand where you are coming from on this.

Sure, just go to the http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer10.html and download the PLUGIN version of the FlashPlayer.

Plugins are for Firefox, ActiveX is for IE.

Well, there's a lot too this really. Everyone keeps making the same comparison: "if it plays OK in (add your player name here), then it should play OK in Boxee." Then assume something is broken in Boxee. Same for the Alpha vs. Beta playback comparison.

Then to challenge the above theory in the opposite direction... Both my systems play any flash and Hulu in boxee flawlessly! Is Boxee still broken then?

Not saying there is no way something aerie, just that one should not make that assumption with so many variants in the mix and the fact that many systems ARE in fact playing just fine. The common denominator has yet to be found.

Wait, I think the dooms day boys are coming...... Quick JMK, run..hide..

Well , if memory serves you have Nvidia ION. I think we're actually saying the same thing just a little differently. It's not that there is an ATI driver issue (i.e. something is broken in the ATI driver), because the ATI driver does work well with Flash Player 10.1 b3 in the web browser. It's that there is probably a bug of some sort with Boxee's calling of the Flash Player 10.1b3 with ATI cards. [ooh, i will add this to my bug report ticket to clarify]

    JMK,

I think we were misunderstanding each other and our terminology was getting mixed up or something.

Never mind, I see what you mean after all. I was reading too much into your wording.

Just don't install this release version if you have beta installed. ..

There we go 100%! That's what I was getting at.

Yes, add that wording to your bug report!
