Thread: [Release][Beta] Launcher!

  1. #21

0.4 is available in my repository now.

    - Fixed the scraping issue for images.
    - You can now browse for your files instead of having to type it in. Should work multi-platform, so if your experiencing issues, please let me know.

Thanks to agentlame and StevenR for helping me with the filebrowser code.

The Edit Feature will be coming soon. I want to make sure I'm not experiencing any bugs with file browsing before I start to implement it. So pending no issues with this version, should be coming out soon.

This version is looking good, but there a couple of slight issues with the file browse function on the Mac:

    1) It seems to double up on the slashes between some parts of path, this seems to happen with the first subfolder and with the file at the end.
    For example:
    /Folder1//Folder2/Folder3/Folder4//File.ext
However, this doesn't prevent the application from running so it is only really a display issue.

    2) Many Mac applications are in the form of .app files, however an .app file is really a special sort of folder (a package) with the .app extension. This means that the file browsing code browses into the files within the application instead of allowing the ApplicationName.app file from being selected. This could possibly be solved by treating a directory as a file if it ends with the .app extension.

I can't get it to work at all on Mac. I try the file browser to select the Hulu Desktop application, hit "return" to select it and there is no way to then get back to the main screen of launcher to hit the "add" button. Hitting esc key after selecting the Hulu app just bounces you out to start all over again with nothing. This is wildly confusing to me and very frustrating. I'm not a programmer, but I know the computer extremely well and if I have problems like this, then I always imagine my friends will find it a nightmare to deal with.

    Any suggestion here?

Also, clicking on "Edit Application" should give you the window to actually edit the settings. Instead the only option it gives you is to remove the application Yes or No feature. If it is going to be titled "Edit Application" then please allow the old settings to come up so you can actually edit the settings.

Ok, I got it to work on Mac finally. I did not realize that I had to select a file deeper inside the Hulu Desktop.app file to make it work.

As to feedback, I don't see how this application is useful for people that have Boxee set up to run on the big screen with remote. First, it opens up my Terminal application to launch Hulu, and then I am locked out of using my Apple remote control as Hulu and Boxee conflict each other as to what app has first control over remote. Hulu Descktop becomes useless at this point with no remote. So basically I have to get up off the couch to go quit Hulu to get back to Boxee.

    Am I missing something here?

Not familiar with mac os, but I guess the windows behavior differs. Besides, this app is for launching any type of app, not just hulu. I use it to launch games for instance.

Yeah, need to modify the code to look for this extension.
