I was eventually able to get audio if I removed my guisettings.xml from ~/.boxee/UserData/ before I started boxee. Then changed the audio settings.

However just today I found this blog post and got sound working over HDMI, though unfortunately only when Boxee audio output is set to Analog.

    Hope this works for you.

    p.s. if /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base doesn't exist, try: /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
I have gotten Boxee to work fine if I check the box to convert multichannel down to stereo, but I'm only interested in using Boxee if it can support 5.1 Digital. Very surprised the Boxee team hasn't addressed this issue yet. It's been over a year since people started reporting this issue. BTW - I use spdif/optical digital audio, not HDMI, fwiw.

    Default Same Issue Here

I have the same issue...Vista on 64bit. Worked fine on first install and for some reason now a couple weeks later no audio - intro sound works but nothing past that with the exception of apps...no audio, no movies.

I have tried like everyone else to configure every way possible...nothing works!!

Got to be a fix for this!!

Sound problems are the bane of Boxee on Linux. I had similar issues when running the Alpha (I posted my attempted solutions at the time), and thought they had gone away when I first installed the Beta. However, when I got the Beta up and running on a new HTPC - no sound. I came across the following:

    http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/10964...n-ubuntu-9.10/

I only had to work through to Step 4 and the sound was back. The article is the clearest explanation of Linux sound I have read and it's the one I will turn to from now on.
