    Default Crunchyroll quality options gone...

Whenever I watch Crunchyroll on the new beta I am never given the option to watch at a higher resolution. It always displays at the lowest resolution. I am a member and can watch at 480P or even 720P on some shows but I no longer have the option, as in the alpha, to select the version to watch. Please change this so I can use Boxee to watch my Anime rather then a browser. I really liked the alpha, but the beta is driving me nuts. I definitely want the higher quality streams!

It should be full screen on either way... What show are you trying to watch and can you describe the exact issue other that resolution?

    Default a little clarification...

Sorry for the confusion. I subscribed to Crunchyroll and paid them money. The paid service offers the same anime at higher resolutions. Yes I get it full screen but I do not have the option to watch the video at the additional "Paid" higher resolutions of 480 or 720P (HD). All are full screen but now all I can get in Boxee is the lowest resolution video that the episode comes in. In the Alpha, when I selected an episode it would have the Play button and a button "Watch in 480P" which would play the episode in a higher resolution. On the beta, that option has disappeared. I want it back. I love Boxee but some of the newer content is available in HD and I have to use a browser to watch it and that SUCKS!

I can't find out who to talk too to get this fixed.

Boxee does not yet support Full HD streams on any content. There are a few issues to address other than just adding the option on the application. The HD support for Boxee is in the works, but since this is beta the devs are focusing on getting the TV streams and overall funtionality nailed before moving on to other areas.

Also, since your optional HD stream is part of a subscription, then the application would need to accomodate this. Crunch would have to make an app specificaly to address these subscriptions.

So, that's a lot to deal with,....

The only thing you can do for now is post a suggestion, if it's not already done:

    Default Ok, but...

I won't pretend to understand the difficulties of HD over Boxee. Since the Alpha allowed me to select DVD quality 480P material, I can't see why the Beta wouldn't support that. Why does the Beta then have this restriction where the Alpha doesn't?

As an aside, is there any information that discusses the difficulty that Boxee is having with HD. Since simple browsers are capable of playing it, I would think that playing Higher resolution video would be very straight forward. After all we aren't talking about over the air transmissions. I would think that the difficulty would not be the transport and play mechanism but getting the content providers to post it in HD. Bandwidth would seem to be the issue for providers after all it is expensive...

    Thanks,

Because the Beta is almost a complete rewrite -- it's not so much a restriction as a short-term limitation.

It looks like it was indeed stripped out of beta. Let's hope it will come back soon, it was a very nice feature.

Yea, I have been forced to use the Alpha becuase it could play the videos for crunchyroll while the beta does not give me the option. Nothing that all it is doing is loading a different stream I can not see how this is any technical limitation on the side of boxee. I can understand that they may have been waiting to give us this option after hardware acceleration is supported or something but there is no reason to take it away for those of us who have computers powerful enough to play any video regardless of the optimization.

I would say that in the future when they do re enable this it would be nice to have an option to allow it to always auto select the highest or lowest stream so that I do not need to manually select the best one every time.

HD may be returning to more apps soon (I say "may" because I don't *know*) -- both now YouTube and the BBC iPlayer now support HD streams...
