Do you think the only way to fix this is to go through the same steps every time?
turn off webserver in network, shut down boxee, restart boxee, then turn on webserver again.

I confirm the bug with 64-bit Ubuntu distro (Ubuntu 10.04 64-bit).
None of the advices given above helped me. I've installed boxee-0.9.22.13692.x86_64.deb today and failed to make remote control working. I've tried 3 versions of boxee Android apps with no result. I also tried iPhone boxee app - same fail.
Yeah, and I have to say that Ubuntu 10.04 32-bit version works good with the latest boxee 32-bit package and Boxee Web Remote v1.0 on my Android phone.
See attachment for boxee.log
Just a "me too" post to bump the thread. Running 0.9.22.13692M 64-bit on Ubuntu 10.4. iPhone Boxee Remote app will work for a while and then eventually stops responding.
Once the remote stops responding, CPU usage for the Boxee process jumps through the roof; presumably the web server is spinning. Disabling the web server will bring CPU usage back down, but empirically it seems that restarting it and attempting to use the remote app will cause Boxee to crash completely.
Once Boxee is restarted the remote works fine for a while until it eventually repeats the above behavior.
Another 'me too'. I've just set up a HTPC using Ubuntu 10.04 64-bit on a dual-core Atom/Ion nettop. Have noticed the following behaviour on my new setup, but never had any probs on my Mac laptop, which I was using before.
I use the iPhone remote:
- The iPhone remote always connects first go
- If the remote session is closed, e.g. due to incoming phone call or leaving app to check email, the app will struggle to reconnect. Entering in the i.p. address manually will overcome this issue
- If I then leave the app again, I will not be able to connect through either method until Boxee is restarted
- After an unknown amount of time (15 mins?), I can usually (but not always) reconnect without any more problems, but the cycle above is restarted.
In addition, at random intervals, the connection becomes flaky and/or dropped. I suspect load on my CPU is somehow related to this, but am unsure.
Edit: boxee-0.9.22.13692.x86_64.modfied.deb FWIW

Further to the above, I installed Lirc in an attempt to get some sort of remote control happening. Since doing so, the iPhone app is no longer able to connect at all.
Shows boxee listening on port 8800. I can also connect to port 8800 via telnet but for some reason the webserver/remote just doesn't want to connect.Code:netstat -anp | grep '^tcp.*LISTEN'
I've now uninstalled Lirc to try and find out whether this was definitely the cause (via apt-get purge) and I'm still completely unable to connect.
I can confirm everything being mentioned upthread. Running 64bit version on ubuntu, the iphone remote app works great until the phone locks (or perhaps after some duration of time, it's unclear to me); the only way to get it working again seems to be to restart boxee itself.
Is there any way to restart just the web server from the command line without having to restart boxee? I'd be happy enough to script up some automated restart to work around this for now until the issue is resolved. Anything is better than having to restart boxee. It's basically unusable as is.
I also suffer from this bug. I'm using version 13692 on Ubuntu Maverick 64bit.
I think I have had this happen on my phone before, where you're unable to regain a connection. If it's the same problem I had, simply killing the process on my phone and then reopening it solved the issue.
