Question no clue what to do_ATV_boxee_movie

So I have the apple tv and had a friend set up boxee on it (he knows what he is doing so the problem is NOT the set up). Here is the dumbest question on earth: how do you actually download a movie and watch it? So far since hulu does not work, I have all the internet radio I want and music on itunes of ATV; it just seems that it was useless to waste time setting up boxee on it. Yes I am dumb as a door nail when it comes to this stuff BUT say I would like to download a movie and watch it, how do I make that idea happen??

am I seriously stupid and that can't happen???

    thanks a bunch

Boxee enables you to stream movies from online sources, some free, some not. For example, when all is working well, you can stream a movie from your Netflix account (if you have one with streaming enabled and you'll need to pair your Boxee account at http://boxee.tv, login and then go to services).

To search for a particular movie, go to Movies, then all the way to the left to activate the left/slider menu and then in the search box, enter your search term. For example, the 1929 Hitchcock movie "Blackmail" is available for free, online viewing just by searchign on "blackmail".

Free / ad-supported movies from Hulu should also show up this way.

    Default thank you

Thank you so much. I did that part (went to boxee page and added the netflix account). However, I can't find the netflix icon in my boxee apps at all. Am I that daft??

Netflix is not supported on AppleTV. Sorry.

Apart from online sources, Boxee allows you to stream any content from your network sources. You can rip DVDs to your desktop computer for example, and then playback from Boxee connected to your TV. You can also stream all your music from local sources. You can download movies/shows from bittorrent clients and then stream through your ATV, or set up the torrent client directly through Boxee to download to your local ATV drive.

NitoTV allows you to add the ability to have Boxee recognize USB drives connected directly to your ATV.

So online sources are great, but streaming from your network is the big advantage of Boxee over standard AppleTV sw, which only allows you to play content purchased/converted through iTunes.

I for one love the simplicity of setting up a folder on my Mac with video files (downloaded, ripped, or otherwise) for Boxee to access across my wireless network. This saves me the hassle of copying them onto a USB for my 360 to play off of, it also allows me to play .mkv files with subs on my TV without the aggravation of transcoding.

    alright!

I think I am getting somewhere! I have to find my macbook when in boxee (on ATV) and hook them up together wirelessly. BTW you are talking to a ~40 year old woman here who loves to learn.

I'll give it a try tonight.
