Thread: How to Add Recently Added to your homescreen

    Another homescreen tweak attached.

Replaced Queue column with "News" (linked to videos). Layout of this column changed to list without icons because some news feeds won't display icons. It is feeding off yahoo-pipe "bb_boxee" which is currently CNN videos but can be edited to include ABC, BBC and other (clone my yahoo pipe if you wish to change it).

Left Feed column edited to not display "source", allowing more space to wrap the title across 2 lines. Not sure if this layout works well with Boxee friends, I have it feeding from Twitter only. On twitter you can setup 2 accounts, mine being: bb_boxee and bb_boxxe_feed. bb_boxee gets automatically fed with various RSS feeds via twitterlive.net. bb_boxee_feed follows bb_boxxe. On the Boxee website, under services/twitter, bb_boxxe_feed is linked. So the setup is:
twitterlive.net posts RSS to --> bb_boxxe which is followed by --> bb_boxee_feed, which is linked inside Boxee.

Note1: Boxee only appears to retrieve twitter once every hour, be patient when first testing.
Note2: Only videos that are embedded in twitter (tweets with video icon) will appear in the boxee feed, so it seems de-facto limited to youtube and vimeo.
Note3: To get a rss feed from youtube user: http://gdata.youtube.com/feeds/base/...erName/uploads

Lastly, added ability to customize the home background overlay. PSD file included (not really changed much, just a bit darker on bottom).

One bug is that the News feed can randomly vanish. I have not figured out why, workaround is to just reload the homepage.

    Default Cool

Great work with that rss news! I customized it a bit, deleted your rss and added some rss news from my country, but never the less excellent work.

Only one question, how did you make your menu "move fluidly" when hovering with mouse over the first/last item? Since I'm using modified home screen with Recently added in the central menu I would like for it to move up or down only using mouse and not up or down key.

Also, it would be great to replace the left column, FEED (not a lot useful to me) with another RSS column. There's a nice little rss maker for your favorite shows at TVRage that makes 4 feeds - yesterdays shows, today's, tomorrows and shows for next 7 days. I have created a nice yahoo rss pipe that combines the best combination for me and placed that with news in left column. Yeah, it works but it's not nice. The best solution would be left column with upcoming shows that I watch and a left column with news or vice versa.

    Any ideas, suggestions?

    Default One more home variation

I have combined the best features (for me) of all available home screens. Middle column is recently added, right column is rss feed, some news from my country and on the left is a list of shows that is on air today, what is tomorrow and for the next 7 days. I have made it in my language but, translated is today, tomorrow, soon... Left column is fed by yahoo pipe. Pipe is combining 3 rss feeds from tvrage, all customized for my shows. Yes, It's only for show, if you click on them all you see is the title of specific episode but is very useful if you have automated download and it skips something. I don't have to search what shows were today and then compare my list of recently added ones.

    How do you like it?

Just want to say thanks for putting the Home.xml on the first page available for download. I replaced mine with yours, and now the home screen is super sexy with my newly added content vs. featured content I couldn't care less about. Cheers!

I just realized that the "Recently Added" text is not all uppercase, while everything else on the boxee home screen is. It seems inconsistent. "Featured," and "Queue" or uppercase, in right in the middle the "Recently Added" isn't. I don't have a clue about manually editing the home.xml, especially since there are so many lines of code. Could anyone post a home.xml where the recently added is uppercase as well, or explain how to achieve this? Thanks!

I read that response earlier in the thread, but I don't get it. There are hundreds of lines of code that I simply don't understand, let alone change a string. I appreciate you posting that though.

P.S. I believe you'r Recently Added is in caps right? I tested it...I just don't like the history in my homepage so I went back to using the home.xml in the first post.

Lastly, there seems to be a graphical error after I applied the Home.xml from the first post. On the Queue (far right column), the number (number of items in queue) bleeds into the word "QUEUE." Does anyone else notice this? "E" in queue and the number are touching. It doesn't look right...

I got the same problem. Plus that TV-SHOWS now says "TV-SHO..."

You have the same on your picture...

I'd like to remove the Music icon from the homescreen and main menu and replace it with a "Kids' Shows" icon so that I can differentiate between stuff for my young'uns and stuff for us grownups. Each set of TV shows resides in a separate directory. I know I can just create a shortcut through the Files menu, but I like to replicate the TV Shows GUI and functionality.

Is this possible? If not, is there another way I can separate two "sets" of TV shows?
