Angry Can't set up an SMB Share. Frustrated!!!

    Hello everyone,

I'm new to Boxee. Looks good, but the lack of documentation is pretty frustrating. Could someone please take a moment and tell me how to access an SMB share on my NAS? I've entered the IP, login, and password and have received a list of shares. When I select one, I get another login/password box asking me to "Lock Preferences" for the share. Huh?

So, I tried the SMB share login/password. Didn't work. I tried frontrow/frontrow. Didn't work. I tried my Boxee login and password. Didn't work.

What am I supposed to enter here? I already see my list of shares. Why this second login window when I select a share?

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks!

    -Rob

I've created a video tutorial for creating shares on Mac OS X. I'm about to publish the new tutorial that shows how to create a media source in Boxer to connect to your share.

I happen to have a D-link DNS-323 network attached storage device. What NAS do you have?

Just create an smb share ok your has with read access to everyone. This should allow anonymous access to others on your LAN.

Search for user berdelyi on YouTube.

Default I have this same problem but not until up updated boxee to .....66

My apple TV was working great with SMB on my windows 7 machine. I updated the boxee to the current build ######66 (sorry not near my apple tv right now to get the newest build number) and my smb are gone and every time I try to add them again it asks for a username and password to access them. I can use all 6 computers in my house to access my computer (which has no passwords on it) including a mac. So what username and password does the Boxee want..Please help, this is driving me crazy. I even enabled my guest account which a few of the threads say to do for XP (and I never had to before with XP or Windows 7) but still No Joy. This version of Boxee is very frustrating.
Oh ya, I also totally factory restored the apple tv and updated it to 2.4 and them used my patch stick and it still does the same thing. Doesn't factory restore wipe everything out or does it still keep some of you boxee settings?
My kingdom for anyone that can help me with this.

I found the problem to this. Uninstall windows live assistant and reboot, that will fix your login problem for windows shares. This problem was driving me nuts until I came accross a post on the windows forums regarding something similar to our problem.

Thank you very much... I was ready to nuke my Mac Mini and my Windows 7 box and all I had to do was uninstall the Windows Live Sign-In Assistant.

Hello. This seems to be a very useful PDF guide you have put together. Can you please tell me whether you ever made the one for Boxee too? I have just got a new Apple TV and installed Boxee on it, but I am having real trouble making it see my Mac as a device, and all the movie content on my Mac.

This is not as straightforward as I imagined!
