    Default application data folder

I know this is an old thread, but I've got a relevant question.

I've got boxee installed on a system with an SSD, and considering the limited life of those, I'm trying to minimize the number of writes to it. Unfortunately, boxee loves to write to the application data folder on this drive all the time, even when its installed on a different drive.

Does anyone know if you can change the directory (or even just the drive letter) for boxee's application data? If not, is there a way to minimize these writes? It writes to this folder constantly, even when I'm not doing anything, mainly to a file called something like "http-cache.db-journal".

I don't know for sure but it might be something in the registry you could change...

Unfortunately Boxee is not setup for this as it's cross-platform so it doesn't rely on said registries. There is no setting for this, but it would be a welcome and easy addition on their part to add. Or they could just fix it from writing so constantly - it really, really doesn't need to.

If it doesnt rely on the registery, does it key from an environmental variable?

You could symlink it to another location. Take you boxee folder and copy it to that other drive. Then use a symbolic link. Basically that folder will be linked to another location. Any program on the os shouldn't know any better.

I have wondered about symlinks but you still need to install Boxee and symlink on every computer you use.

On the topic of wearing out a SSD, see http://www.storagesearch.com/ssdmyths-endurance.html

From a glance, it is not something you should be worried about.
