Thread: How do we get Boxee to recognize TV "specials"

Default How do we get Boxee to recognize TV "specials"

Is there some method of designating episode numbers to a video file that is not part of a regular TV season according to TVDB?

For example, the series finale of the show Extras is considered a "Special" by TVDB and not part of season 2, which is likely why Boxee is unable to recognize it.

    Extras.Xmas.Special.avi

And in TVDB it's not listed as under either season, just Specials, episode 1.

I was wondering the same. Also what to do with TV movies that are actually part of TV Series. Take Battlestar Galactica Razor for example? Or the Lost Mobisodes...

currently we do not support these issues as they will think they are movies rather than tvshows...

The problem is when it's a special that is not considered a movie. BSG:Razor, for example, was a straight-to-DVD movie, so it shows up in the IMDB as such and gets indexed.

A show like the Extras Xmas Special is only in the TVDB, and as such has no way of being indexed at all, even manually, by Boxee.

Why not allow one to enter S as the season number to match against the TVDB manually if nothing else?
Using Boxee on AppleTV. On my Mac too, but mainly using on the ATV.

i agree with you but this however 99% of the time the tvshows follow the format of series and episodes ..maybe we should modify the database of tvbd

I guess I don't see how TVDB could be updated to fix this. A "special" episode isn't part of a regular season, so putting it in one would be inaccurate.

MMM... i'll try to get these specials recognized as movies. We can always browse them via our sources of course

Edit: extras special = extras 03x00 (according to imdb)

I agree with Marcel, that an update of the tvdb would be easiest, but since that is pretty much outside our influence, it may be possible to mark specials without episodenumbers in a special way, including episode name in the filename and get them recognized that way?

I have this issue with Mythbusters specials: they are marked as "specials" in a certain season, and do not get an episodenumber assigned. If you look at season 6 for example: http://www.thetvdb.com/?tab=season&s...id=29482&lid=7

Would it be possible to recognize the specials in this season when the files are named with an S at the position of the episodenumber:
    Mythbusters.s06eS.Viewer.Special
    Mythbusters.s06eS.Supersized.Myths
    Mythbusters.s06eS.Mythbusters.Young.Scientists.Spe cial
    Mythbusters.s06eS.Common.Car.Myths

Would that be a workable solution?
Running Boxee on a MacBook and lovin' it!
