Thread: Boxee Beta...my feeds gone?

    Default Boxee Beta...my feeds gone?

One of the things I liked about alpha was that it has a built in torrent app that could download stuff for me. I had several feeds going to it and used the my feeds app to download stuff I wanted to watch.

I understand that beta is trying to help by finding the content for you, but some of hte shows I watch it can't find, so I have to download on a different machine and move it the boxee machine. Did they remove the my feeds completely or did I just miss it somewere? My feeds still show up on the website here.

Feeds will be re-added in a future build, rtorrent will not.

i run boxee 0.9.20 on: ubuntu 9.10, windows xp sp3 (virtual machine), windows 7 and a neuros link hacked to all hell.

what super powers does a 'super mod' have? the 'super ban'... that, and laser vision.

hmm...doesn't one go with the other? Or will it have another way to down torrents? Thanks for the info. I really do love Boxee Beta and how much of an improvement it is over alpha.

Well, RSS feeds are more used for streaming content--podcasts--than they are for torrents.

    Boxee plays podcasts just fine.

Well, it depends where you live... ;-)
Torrent-rss were a nice additional source of fresh HD content, especially for those living outside the US who still can't benefit of all streaming offers you have over there due to geographic restrictions ;-)
Personally I found it to be one of Boxee's killer features.

Um, I've never seen a podcast that is geo-restricted.

    I don't think he's referring to podcasts

He's talking about torrenting 'Lost.SE07E12.MKV' which he can't watch on ABC.com due to where he lives.

A solution for him is to feed his RSS stream to a torrent app that will download/properly name the file into a directory setup as a media share in Boxee. Kind of how some of us have our PVR's set up to capture shows (good luck getting past Boxee's restrictive file name requirements )

Run the torrenting app on another machine on the network or in the background on the machine running Boxee. Set Boxee to monitor the folder 'frequently'.

This is where another sorely missing and sadly deleted (as far as I know) feature from the Boxee Alpha was nice: 'Recently Added.' My wife always was happy to go to 'Recently Added' to see what I got for her/us and check if I got that thing she asked me to get.

Why were features taken out of Beta making the product less useful for some of us?

    I think the same.
I live on Spain and I dont have access to hulu, netflix, abc, cbs or any other video streaming service, so my only chance is donwload the tv shows I love from bittorrent.
The alpha managed my Rss's pretty well and I can download the shows by bittorrent, but now the beta lacks that functionality.
If rtorrent is going to the boxee box and future boxee releases I will be happy.

    Just so. It works flawlessly.

I gather that the replacement feature for this is a combination of navigating to the TV show and using the "add to my shows (queue new episodes)" from the left menu. This should put new episodes in the Home Screen Queue but currently only works for online content (see: http://jira.boxee.tv/browse/BOXEE-3705 and vote it up, please )

I read earlier that the beta is pretty much a rewrite from the ground up. I would expect many of the missing features to return in some form or another.
