TorrentUI 0.7: What TransmissionUI turned into.

TransmissionUI was doomed from the start because of the platform specific nature of choosing a single torrent client.

Introducting TorrentUI


I decided to build a pluggable torrent client back-end to make it easy to expand to new clients. Currently it still uses the Transmission backend.

It is built to scan through and try to connect to possible torrent clients and if it does not find one, allows you to specify a manual IP address for your torrent client, so monitoring remote seed boxes is already possible.

To be done:

• Sorting
• More accurate progress (currently every 10%)
• Sidebar to get at preferences
• rTorrent backend
• uTorrent backend

It will be in a repo soon, for now you have to check it out from github and put it in you apps and make a shortcut manually.

I am going to start working on the uTorrent backend. I will be testing it through WINE on a Linux box, so I will require some actual Windows users to test. I will update this post.

This looks very cool...how do you install it?

Here's how to install his app (Linux/Mac only):

1. Go here:
   http://github.com/joshuajonah/boxee-torrentui
   
   
2. Click the "Download Source" link at the top right of the page.
   
   
3. Extract the archive and copy its contents to:
   ~/BOXEE/userdata/apps/torrentui
   
   
4. Open up your profiles "shortcuts.xml" file (~/BOXEE/userdata/profiles/<user>) and add this after the last shortcut entry:
   

       <shortcut index="">
           <name>Torrent Downloads</name>
           <thumbnail>http://joshuajonah.com/torrentsicon.png</thumbnail>
           <adult>false</adult>
           <path>app://torrentui/</path>
           <is-folder>false</is-folder>
           <country>all</country>
           <country-allow>true</country-allow>
           <readonly>false</readonly>
       </shortcut>

5. Restart Boxee. Go to your shortcuts row and "Torrent Downloads" should be listed at the end of the list:
