I'm not getting any sound on shoutcast, or any podcasts. However, sound works in OS (Ubuntu 8.04), and Comedy Central, hulu. Volume is all the way up. Anyone else have the same problems, or have any recommendations?

are you sure the music is playing? do you have visualization?is this happening just on internet music ,last fm etc ..what about local /or network music ..
I had the exact same problem, to fix it I went into the audio settings when a video was playing that didn't have sound. Then I cycled through the outputs until the sound came on. I actually ended with the original setting but for some reason cycling worked. But it seems I have to do this everytime
hi zeppelin06
which audio settings ?boxee or linux..
The audio setting in boxee that appear when you move the mouse during a playing video. I have had some luck with this but it seems boxee keeps crashing for other reasons.

...Shoutcast I see visualizations, podcast videos I see people talking...I don't have any local/network music yet...

...I tried cycling through the outputs, but if I try to change it once, boxee crashes, then I go back to sound output, and the change was made, but still no sound. Try and change again, and it crashes again. Happened multiple times...
I'm having a similar problem, except that it seems like certain video formats play correctly and others do not. Specifically, streams like hulu appear to play well, but files in avi, mkv, etc do not.
My problem might be up/down conversion of the sound.
Does boxee just pass the sound off directly to alsa, or is it doing something fancier?
Any ideas?
boxee is built using sdl... my understanding is that sdl_audio abstracts alsa.
sdl is a cross-platform gaming framework, boxee talks to it, and sdl in turn, talks to:
lin = alsa
win = directsound (do they still make directsound?)
mac = coreaudio
now, to make it a bit more complected... this is not true in the case of the flash sites. (hulu, cc, cbs, etc.)
in those cases, boxee just wraps the given os' version of flash-standalone.
because flash is already cross-platform, it handles audio itself.
all this accounts for the fact that you can't control the volume level on flash sites.
(actually, that and the fact that boxee's audio is internalized in sdl, hence boxee's volume level is unrelated the the system volume level.
while flash's volume level is system based.)
@boxee-devs, please correct all the parts i got wrong.![]()

i run boxee 0.9.20 on: ubuntu 9.10, windows xp sp3 (virtual machine), windows 7 and a neuros link hacked to all hell.
what super powers does a 'super mod' have? the 'super ban'... that, and laser vision.
After trying multiple content types I have come to the opinion (unverified) that the files/streams that don't work for me are almost all of the non-flash content. I am running ubuntu 8.10 ibex. Boxee was the first and only thing I have running on this machine.
when boxee crashes please send me your debug logs
