Thread: Boxee beta doesn't run on Ubuntu 9.04 / 64bit

  1. #1

    Default Boxee beta doesn't run on Ubuntu 9.04 / 64bit

    It looks like Boxee is linked to an incorrect version of libstdc++:

    Code:
    $ /opt/boxee/Boxee
    /opt/boxee/Boxee: /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6: version `GLIBCXX_3.4.11' not found (required by /opt/boxee/Boxee)
    The highest instance of that symbol in my install is 3.4.10.

    Any suggestions?

    Boxee is on x86_64 is only supported on 9.10 and going forward.

    Edit:
    I see that the download page states:
    "Boxee Beta 0.9.20.10261 for Ubuntu 64bit Linux 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope, 9.10 Karmic Koala"

    I believe this to be a mistake, and have asked the team for confirmation/correction.

    i run boxee 0.9.20 on: ubuntu 9.10, windows xp sp3 (virtual machine), windows 7 and a neuros link hacked to all hell.

    what super powers does a 'super mod' have? the 'super ban'... that, and laser vision.

    Insert "Oh no!" from Lemmings

    The text "Boxee Beta 0.9.20.10261 for Ubuntu 64bit Linux 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope, 9.10 Karmic Koala" should probably be updated then on the download page.

    32-bit version works using the getlibs recommendation in the old "getting boxee running in 64bit ubuntu" thread. Boxee should definitely take a look at updating their text.

    Ugh... oh well, looks like another OS upgrade/reload party for me

    I ended up upgrading Boxee in the 32-bit chroot I had set up, and it works like a charm.

    Help? What does this mean? Can I run boxee on my 64 bit 9.04 Juanty? I don't want to upgrade to 9.10 for other reasons.

    You can run Boxee on 64-bit Jaunty by creating a 32-bit chroot to run Boxee from. This means that you have a parallel installation of all of the 32-bit libraries and such. It requires a bit of setup, but once it's installed it "just works". The nice thing is once you do upgrade to 9.10 or higher, you can cleanly remove the chroot without affecting the rest of your system.
