Default Boxee Beta not handling .mkv files & initial playback is slow and glitchy

    1) Attempting to play .mkv files with subtitles & other soundtracks are not recognized via boxee.

    a) The container with multiple subtitle tracks (i.e.: Japanese anime w/ English subtitles) is not visible in beta playback.

    b) The container with multiple soundtracks (i.e.: Dts 5.1, English dub, Japanese dub, etc) is not recognized and cannot be accessed via boxee menu options

    2) Initial playback of all files via boxee is glitchy and slow. I have to manually hit the rewind button for it to readjust and play properly.

Neither of these issues were experienced with Boxee Alpha using the same files.

    OS: Win7 64

Is there anyway to get a link to download Boxee Alpha? While these issues are being resolved for Beta? Thanks.

Ok, uninstalled Beta and reinstalled Alpha. However playback on certain .mkv Anime test files (which played fine before Beta was installed) no longer played with the reinstalled Alpha. In fact after testing, I found the playback of these container files caused Alpha to crash.

Anyone know the cause of this? Is there a workaround to get Boxee Alpha to handle files correctly after the Beta Uninstall?

Whatever boxee is using to handle playback in the new beta is really buggy.

I'm not seeing subtitles at all with the Beta for my MKVs, despite subtitles being enabled and selected in my "Settings". Back to the Alpha release for now I guess.

I can see subtitles (they are enabled by default in beta) in my mkv files. However, I also have to report slow playback as described in the first post. The weird thing is that it does not happen every time and so I am looking for interactions with other programs that may be the cause of the issue.

I am on ubuntu jaunty on xps1330, intel gm965 and 4Gb Ram.

    Cheers,
    S.

I can't get Boxee to load mkv files that worked fine with the aplha and the leaked beta too. Boxee just keeps waiting and finally I lose patience and kill it.

Some mkv files are having issues with subtitles that worked with the previous versions I tried.

MKV file handling seems to have gone completely to pieces, honestly.

All these files were being played over a network share using a Acer Revo 330.

Have the same problem with mkvs.. initial playback is in slow motion, then catches up after about 15 seconds.

Same here. I get this with all my mkv's on both my Core 2 Duo system with an Nvidia 8600GTS, and my ION based PC. It stutters for about 5 - 10 seconds, and then playback is mostly fluid after that. I say mostly, because I still get the occasional stutter, as if a frame is being skipped here and there. This happens regardless of whether I'm viewing from internal storage, or over a network share.

this is happening to me as well. is there any fix?

with all of my mkv files. the video plays like slow motion while the audio plays normal for the first 5-15 seconds of the video. after that everything plays fluid.
