Default Boxee BETA does not play nice with XP at All?

I completely uninstalled (everything) the "accidently prereleased" BETA that I got 3 weeks ago and installed the official BETA today.

I can't tell you how dissappointed I am This version is completely buggy for me in XP Pro. I'm not sure if it's an XP problem or just the program is not ready for primetime. People have been saying that Boxee has not been playing nice with XP on this forum but I had no idea. This is a complete step backwards.

If it's just an XP problem, no biggy, I can just reinstalled the "old version" until they get the XP version right.

The immediate problems I see (worked fine in "old version") are:

    - Playing standard Def movies are glitchly
    - skip forward/backward buggy
    - Can't add a share of my picture folder
    - Music cover art is missing
    - Pandora is completely buggy and not useable
    - GUI background is glitchy and buggy
    -etc

    I see only 3 options

    1) I screwed up the uninstall/install of old and new Boxee that messed things up.
    2) Boxee BETA really doesn't play nice with XP yet.
    3) Boxee BETA development went backwards.

Does anybody else have XP and are you have these issues? Do you think my uninstall/install went bad? Any other ideas?

I'm not trying to bash on Boxee. I love it. I want to love it But if this is truely an XP problem it should have never been released like this.

It's true, boxee doesn't play well with XP.

Could you also post your system stats, like RAM processor, and video card data?

I have an Acer 3600 Atom Ion. 2 gigs, XP Pro, Hama MCE remote. All this worked very well before.

Marcel told me that there were...were some issues wth Beta and XP with relation to flash and silverlight, but those were fixed in this release. I can personally attest to this with my older legacy hardwar XP maching. What did not work well now does.

On that note, MrFatboy and I have chatted before about his set up.

I think the older 3600 model uses a different Ion GPU than my 3610. But I'd have to confirm this.
This still beggs the question: If it worked before the new beta, why is it not now? Is there a huge change in the beta or is it plug in and drivers? Dunno.

    Mrfatboy,
Can you confirm your Direct X, Flash Beta and silverlight versions? How about the Nvidia GPU and chipset driver? Just need a baseline here.

Lastly, Boxee has always been very "buggy" while it is indexing your smb shares. It's particulary so with this new beta version. Crashes, odd behavior, things don't work, vids won't play. If you are getting this behavior while indexing, let it sit till done. Restart Boxee and try again. Most times that fixes it.

Considering the (nearly) completely smooth performance I'm getting on my XP machine right now (unbelievable improvement over the last beta), I don't think its an XP issue. There are definitely still some rough edges in this build, I've managed to crash it or lock it up a handful of times already, but overall, it is playing much nicer with XP.

cog: could you PM me your system setup (or, i guess, post it publicly here)? I'm concerned that upgrading my video card wont be enough...

It's embarrassingly out of date, but:
    Win XP SP3
    P4 3.0Ghz HT
    2 GB RAM
    GeForce 7600GS 256MB AGP
    SB Audigy LS
    dual 120GB EIDE HDDs
standard def (but has a high def resolution function) Sony WEGA TV connected via S-Video

The only real problems I have had are the occasional (very) minor "hitch" in playback of streamed video, an outright crash when attempting to use the volume controls in Pandora and a couple of odd lock ups that didn't seem to have a cause (still trying to replicate). Beyond that, I can honestly say this is the first build that I feel is truly ready to replace the cable I gave up months ago when I found Boxee. Up until now, I was afraid I would be forced to invest in a new machine for Boxee because of the hardware and OS limitations of my current one. I'll probably still do that, just because I want to, but the performance of this beta has been good enough that I no longer feel like I absolutely have to.

Hey! That's great: it's very similar to my set up, so that means my system is not a total lost cause. Because my NVidia GeForce4 MX is pretty ghetto, boxee has been a total flop at playing local media. But, at 2.8ghz Pent4, and 1.25ghtz RAM (which needs to be updated) I think I can squeak out a few more months out of this XP machine. Thx

    Here's ghetto:

    Home built circa 2003
    XP Pro SP3
    AMD 3600+ 400FSB
    1.5 GB Ram 400 bus
    AN-7 Mobo
    Nvidia GForce FX5200, 256mb, 8x AGP
Best rig you could build before the 64 bit singl core's came out.

Beta barely plays well on it. But the pubic beta now plays Hulu perfectly and netflix actually has a video feed now though laggy as hella.

Thank GOd I got that Revo 3610! Gotta order at least 2 more here shortly!!! Cable was made History last month!
