The more I use Boxee the more I realize we need privacy settings. And i don't just mean the obvious social networking capabilities.

    1) Many web browsers, media players and even productivity apps keep a history of where the user has been or a cache of recently used media and documents. These applications typically include the following:

-Ability to specify the time period to keep the data
    -Ability to disable the feature
-Ability to manually delete the data
-Ability to automatically delete the data on exit

    2) Considering the social nature of Boxee, we should also have granular controls to decide which information is shared and with who. I probably don't want others to know what porn I'm watching and how often.

you know... maybe a 'private mode'?

i have yet to watch any porn in boxee, even set to 'private', because i'm just too scared it will slip through and end-up on my feed.

i have like 200+ friends, from inviting people... it's not like it's some secrete that people watch it. hell, there is even an 'xxx' feed. it's just not what i would call a 'social activity'.

that and my girlfriend is one of my friends.

i run boxee 0.9.20 on: ubuntu 9.10, windows xp sp3 (virtual machine), windows 7 and a neuros link hacked to all hell.

what super powers does a 'super mod' have? the 'super ban'... that, and laser vision.

Well... I happen to have a pretty explicit "art film" that appears in IMDB. Maybe I should add it to my library and mark it as a recommendation for others. I wonder if there's a trailer.

lol... maybe that's what i should do... just start recommending porn to everyone. it's like throwing spaghetti at the wall: if it's sticks, it's done... if they stay, they're you friends.

really though, human sexuality is an interest of mine--in the non-pornographic sense. boxee has two really good feeds, that i'm reluctant to recommend to people:
mid west teen sex show: video > internet > xxx > mid west teen sex show.
it's not what it sounds like, it's a really funny sexual education podcast
    -and-
savage lovecast: music > internet > culture > savage love
call-in sex advice with dan savage, also extremely funny... dan writes america's most-read advice column. (www.thestranger.com)

i suppose it doesn't matter, as i always rate them, so they show up regardless.

i also have misgivings about recommending political videos on youtube. maybe we should do a 'recommendation etiquette' poll?

(sorry for hijacking your thread. )

Yeah, I love Dan Savage's column and my girlfriend just turned me on to the podcast.

I don't know how you innocently explain finding the Mid-West Teen Sex Show only to say that it's not what you think. You thought it was something else?

no, no... really... it's sex advice aimed at teens. (define 'teens' however you like... i'm 27.)

actually, my girlfirend found it when i introduced her to miro (www.getmiro.com)... their goal is altruistic, however skewed the message may seem.... watch a few of them, or even better, check-out ABC's report: http://abcnews.go.com/video/playerIndex?id=4762125 ... it's not my fault that the boxee guys put it in the 'xxx' feed.
