Default Help installing on Apple TV 2.3?

Your instructions are not worded well at all.
I'm attempting to install Boxee on an Apple TV with v2.3 on it.

    I'm running Windows 7.
I follow the instructions located here http://support.boxee.tv/forums/49598/entries/42684 and they are worded very confusingly.

    3. Insert a "bootable" USB drive into your Pc/Mac
Does it really have to be bootable? some people seem to say otherwise, by bootable, do you mean a MS DOS bootable? because that's all that comes up when I google "bootable USB drive"
    4. Run the ATVUSB-Creator
    5. Click on Choose a DMG and point it to the downloaded disk image
When I choose the DMG, it automatically saves a DMG that is about 10MB larger to the atv-win.2.0 folder, is this the file to put on my bootable USB drive? Because you didn't specify, I suggest you learn to create better guides.
    6. Click on Create Patchstick
When I click on Create Patchstick, it goes to download the current firmware from Apple, why in the world does it do this when I already have it?

This is alot of BS if you ask me, entirely confusing.
Someone please respond with easier comments.

    Thank you,
    Joseph

Also, does Boxee support Composite video as NitoTV2 does? Can it output full colour and SDTV resolution? I'd think this would be something you would want to support.
I'm curious as I don't own an HDTV and have no use otherwise.

Apparently as my Apple TV has 2.3, I need the dmg of 2.3 to correctly do this? Where do I get it? All the links I find are no longer working.

may I ask you a personal question? I work in a very customer-service oriented profession, and I'm always shocked by the behavior of people like you who complain about stuff they get for free. not things that make sense, like health risks, aesthetics, or something that you specifically paid for, or paid to have done. complimentary things. why would you go online and piss and moan about something you, to put it bluntly, don't deserve? I always do my best to help my customers because thats what they pay me to do, but you didn't pay these guys for anything. why are you taking such a rude and abrasive approach to asking for help?

Uh, because it would have taken them the same amount of time to post correct, easy to read instructions as it took them to post these half truths and obviously wrong instructions? These instructions are half assed, they don't mention half the steps required in order to do this correctly, you have no reason to ask me what you just did.

Edit: Also, I don't deserve this? Then you don't and neither does anyone else here, as this is freeware for everyone. No one deserves it then, according to your logic.

Edit2: I also don't believe I was being rude at all, I was pointing out some very obvious mistakes. I apologize if making record of these mistakes and trying to improve these guides is rude to you.

the instructions were given with the assumption that you were as qualified to perform the installation as they are. there is no obligation whatsoever for them to dumb it down for the laymen such as you or I, or provide instructions at all. hundreds of peopled have followed the instructions successfully, others, possibly yourself, were thwarted by limitations or variables introduced by the atv or apple. you are essentially blaming the developer for your own shortcomings, and the shortcomings of a product they are in no way responsible for. to be absolutely clear, your choice of words indicated a failure on their part, which is simply not the case. that is a very, very rude approach when dealing with someone who is clearly willing to work with you despite the fact that they are not even obligated to provide you with the software to begin with.

in short, no, you do not deserve boxee. neither do I. that is essentially the definition of "free". it did not magically materialize, people WORKED to make it a reality, and you did not contribute ANYTHING to that effort. it is RUDE to make demands for things you did not EARN and therefore do not DESERVE.

feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but the reason you were so rude is because you felt you deserved better service, even though you did nothing, and will do nothing to reward that service. I find that very unsatisfying. I cannot imagine how you can come under such an illusion, and still manage to be a productive member of society, even though I know that is very likely the case. I suppose it's just one of those "life just isn't fair" things.

the point is, when someone provides you with a great, or potentially great product for free, and then proceeds to offer a service such as a forum where they regularly provide assistance for free, THEY have earned YOUR appreciation. they DESERVE it. your attitude suggests that you're too cheap to pay them respect.

    What exactly don't you understand?

Instructions are quit straightforward and easy to execute. If you need help let me know, but agree with phoi, no need for complaints.

P.s I would suggest upgrading your software to 3.01 first and then install boxee

Wow, way for both of you to answer my questions.
As already stated, those instructions don't deal with half the required steps, they expect you to run the software and know what to do, it's not that straightforward.

No one told me that I couldn't install 2.4 on an Apple TV that has 2.3, I had to google around for hours just to figure that out, that is something that should be on your instructions....

Obviously someone here is making ad revenue from Boxee and if they want to make more, they should improve their instructions and make them easy enough to figure out. I have ten years of experience in the consumer electronics field, that doesn't make me a programmer but this should be simple enough for me to figure out, if not a 35 year old soccer mom.

I'm not even going to bother any further, you're lucky that you guys didn't get a straight "**** you" for providing absolutely nothing to this thread and wasting my time thus far.

    Have good lives,
    Joseph

I've had absolutely no service or suggestions from anyone who's involved with Boxee thusfar, just annoying posts providing no answers from people such as yourself.. so no, I have nothing to owe to Boxee or anyone involved. They do not deserve my appreciation because all they've done is create a substandard guide with outdated steps and expect me to search their forums pages back for hours to find out how to install their software. That is not a good business model which equals failure.
Boxee could take off and make them millions, but not unless they take the ten minutes required to make an adequate guide.
