Thread: Boxee Fedora 10/11 port

  1. #1

    Default Introducing Boxee Fedora RPM

I know it's close to the Beta release, and i'll have to do some of this all over again. After a great deal of work I have a proper port done without alien. The spec file, src rpm and a binary rpm can be found here. Please read the readme.beta which contains some details about installation. I have only tested on F10 for now. I will attempt to update this once I get my hands on the Beta release. Many thanks to the people who helped me hammer out the details, they know who they are.

EDIT: Date and time issue corrected by creating the file /etc/zoneinfo with contents in the format of: America/New_York

EDIT: Well, sources 10408 required the creation of /etc/timezone to fix the time issue :-/

EDIT: 6/24/2010 Dropped builds for EOL Fedora 10 and 11.

    EDIT: 7/11/2010 Updated to 9.21.12563

Great work kurgan; can some folks post their results with this RPM?

Thanks sdnick484. Feedback is certainly welcome. I'm not sure how much attention I might be able to give to issues since the beta is about to drop, but i'll do my best.

    Default Fedora 12

Kurgan I appreciate that the Beta will be available soon,
but I wondered how easy it would be to generate a Boxee RPM for Fedora 12 ?

Ask and ye shall receive :-) New packages and spec file can be found at the link in my first post. The same rules still apply from the readme. Please note, I have not tested these packages on f12 at all, only that installation and uninstall works.

Default Kurgan you are a star !

Thank you kurgan, the RPM works great.
Had to install a few libs to get it to start, but all seems to be working fine.

    Huge time saver, thanks again.

Cool! I'm glad to hear it works fine on F12, since I need to upgrade my htpc from F10.

    Default F11 x86_64?

I haven't tried to do the installation, but does anyone know if the src.rpm has been used to install in a 64bit environment? It looks like the rpms are only for i386, but the spec file has references for when compiling under a 64bit architecture (though I note the symlinks appear to all be set for a i386 environment).

Anyone had any success on F11 x86_64?

ggalt, I have not attempted to build on x86_64 yet. The references you see in the spec file are because the spec file started life as an XBMC spec file. I'm not sure i'll have time in the near future to try an x86_64 build. I may try once I get beta access.

    Default x86_64 F11

OK, I guess I'll get to work and see what happens. I'll report back what I find.
