Default Flash Player 10.1 Beta! Hardware Accelerated Flash!

Seems to work a treat on my acer aspire 1600, but only in the hulu desktop app and browsers. boxee seems to still be using the old version. Anyone know how to force boxee to use flash 10.1

Wow, that is cool that Flash 10.1 is out. I'll have to check it out as my Revo 3610 arrives Wednesday. But upon logging into Adobe.com's site with Windows XP and IE, I see only 10.0.32.18 . Are you sure you have 10.1?

Update: You did say "beta." So I dug and found a Pre Release version of 10.1 released on 10/5/09 Here

I don't think you can force any program to use GPU acceleration or newer Flash. I think both have to be built into the programming. So on the Atom/Ion, browser based Flash like Hulu will play nicely once 10.1 is installed, but not inside Boxee because it does not yet support GPU acceleration or off loading. But I could be wrong.

    Marcel ...DPK...any ideas on this?

not sure what version you accessed but it's on gizmodo and engadget today

    http://gizmodo.com/5406280/adobe-fla...-is-better-now

that has the links your after. I thought boxee was just using flash to run the streaming media, I didn;t know it had it's own stuff working on it.

Note that this is what worked for me and I can't vouch for other systems. This machine is running 32-bit Windows Vista and I've verified that it now successfully runs Flash Player 10.1.51.45.

    1. You must remove all existing installs of Flash on your machine!
    2. Go to Add/Remove Programs in the control panel and uninstall any Adobe Flash Player products.
    3. Go to Plugins section of Firefox Add-ons and disable the Shockwave Flash plugin. You can't remove it from here, but that's ok. Just make sure it's disabled and faded out in the Plugins pane. If you don't do this step, you won't update Firefox's version of Flash Player to 10.1.

    4. Go here:
      http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer10.html

    5. Download the "plug-in for Windows" and the "active-x for Windows" to your machine.
    6. Close all your browser windows and install them.

    7. Go here:
      http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about

    8. Start up Firefox and Internet Explorer and verify that on the right side of the screen they say "You have version 10,1,51,45 installed" and if so, congrats you're regular browsers are updated!
    9. Now to update Boxee's internal browser. First thing first, shut down Boxee!

    10. Go here on your system:
      C:\Program Files\Boxee\system\players\flashplayer\xulrunner-win32\bin\plugins

    11. Rename NPSWF32.dll to NPSWF32.old.

    12. Go here on your system:
      C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash

    13. Copy NPSWF32.dll from there to:
      C:\Program Files\Boxee\system\players\flashplayer\xulrunner-win32\bin\plugins

    14. Start Boxee back up and you should be running Flash Player 10.1 now!

    Default Steps for Ubuntu

These should be the steps for Ubuntu

    1. Remove flash (synaptic or sudo apt-get remove ...)

    2. Download the plugin for linux (see webpage from DPK)

    3. tar xvzf flashplayer10_1_p1_linux_111709.tar.gz

    4. cd install_flash_player_10_linux/

    5. sudo ./flashplayer-installer; follow the instructions (path to firefox for me: /usr/lib/firefox-3.0.15 )

    6. cd /opt/boxee/system/players/flashplayer/xulrunner/bin/plugins/

    7. sudo cp libflashplayer.so libflashplayer.so_old

    8. sudo cp /usr/lib/firefox-3.0.15/plugins/libflashplayer.so /opt/boxee/system/players/flashplayer/xulrunner/bin/plugins/

    9. Enjoy!

    Cheers!

I have tried installing Flash 10.1 on my appletv, and it wasn't working for me. (Just came up a black screen). I have installed other versions of Flash for Boxee, so my process should work, but evidentally 10.1 isn't working correctly yet. I didn't have time (on my lunch hour), but I want to look over the boxee log to see if anything obvious shows up.

Will this even make a difference in Linux since from my understanding, the hardware acceleration only applies to the version available for Windows? I wasn't sure how else it would help in Boxee.
