I definitely know the advantages of open source development.. I ran an open source project until I lost interest/free time. But I know the value of a top notch interface, too.

Part of it is that Boxee is just kind of slow on Apple TV, which I'm sure is in no small part due to the hardware. If Mac Minis were $300 I'd be all over that.
If I wasn't in the position I am already, Boxee would have a lot more value. But I have an entire library already encoded in h.264 and in iTunes, so the Apple TV software already does almost everything I want. And my internet connection is too slow to take advantage of streaming, but most people have faster internet and that would be a big draw. Once we get the basement finished I have a PC I might repurpose for down there.. Boxee would be perfect.
