Default Boxee for ATV stops playback when playing from SMB share, other versions are fine!

i am running a ubuntu server that has all of my media stored on it. I have the correct folders shared, and they show up in Boxee, and everything works just as it should. The problem is that on the Apple TV the media stops playing about every 10 minutes and i have to restart the vid3eo and fast fwd to the point where it stopped. It always starts back up again, and i never get any errors.

This has to be a problem with the apple tv, and nothing else because i have boxee installed on 3 other machines within the network that can access the files with no problem and play them without a hitch.

I would like to mention that this problem comes after my ATV was recently hosed and I had to do a fresh install w/ patchstick. I don't understand why it is doing this. Perhaps a cache issue?

Is there a way I can peek into the log files to see what is going wrong?

EDIT-- I forgot to mention that playback on XBMC for ATV is also just fine.

    Any suggestions?

I noticed something similar today as well, only mine won't even begin playback.

I tried it several times, but it just hung with the 'busy' icon rotating on the screen. No response to the remote whatsoever. Eventually, boxee flat out crashed, giving an error code (15 or something, I can't remember)..

    Everything works fine in XBMC..

It also seems that Joost is not working either. Starts to play, white screen, then bails back to the icon menu.

Are you using the latest launcher and boxee alpha ? Please try renaming the UserData and see if it works..

i am using the latest of everything.

Since there were no replies last night, i decided to do some checking on some things on my end. Disabling AFP on the Apple TV helped. I haven't noticed a single hangup since disabling AFP. I would *prefer* to use AFP if I can, but it's no deal breaker.

I'll post back if it starts doing it again, but for now i'm going to chalk this up as a solution.

@marcel: Can you point me in the direction of a post that describes how (and why) to rename UserData? I just bought this thing a few days ago and I'm not all that familiar with the system / problems just yet..

I'm using the most current version of everything (that I know of). I attempted a re-patch sticking after a factory restore to make sure I did everything right and it still does it. I also noticed that the WB works for the first show, and then hangs for every show thereafter unless you restart Boxee. Only certain shows seem to work on Joost (well, one that I can remember)..

SO this "solution" only worked for a few days. Now playback is hiccuping again, seemingly every 10 minutes or so. It's a real annoyance.

This absolutely HAS to be related to the Apple TV release, as I pointed out in my earlier post, my other Boxee installs do not exhibit this behavior.

I have Boxee installed on Windows Vista, Mac OS X Snow Leopard, and Jaunty. These installs can access the network volume without any problems.

    @Marcel:

Is there anything I should be looking for in the log file when playback is suspended and I am returned to the menu? I would like to have this resolved.

My install method was as follows:

    1. Restored to 1.0 factory
    2. Updated to latest ATV
    3. Patchstick
    4. Download and install Boxee

When I started having problems with the playback, I installed NitoTV --> Smart Installer--- wondering if there was something there that would help the situation, but it did nothing.

When is the next scheduled Boxee for ATV release? This version is *painfully* slow when loading content compared to my cheap netbook running jaunty.

My network is designed as follows:

Internet --> Wired 10/100/1000 Router --> Ubuntu Server (hosting SMB shares)

Router --> Airport Express --> Wireless Network

Wireless Network --> ATV & all other computers on the network

The server is reachable using zeroconf. All ports are open AFAIK.

    Thanks in advance.
