First version is out now! Below are some teaser images of where things are right now. I just love comics as it reminds me of being a little kid reading them at the breakfast table. I used the classic "Peanuts" for these images.

Also note that some features have not made it into the initial release (viewing similar comics, advanced sharing, basic settings, etc); been so busy lately with other things in life. A later release will add those things. The app will support all comics and editorial cartoons from comics.com (around 154 different toons in total!) except for Dilbert. Dilbert for whatever reason is the only comic that has a special site for comics.com. I'll work on adding support for it later.

hrm, think i should do an xkcd app... that would only take a few hours to throw together.

I'd love to see an xkcd app, I'd definitely use it. One of my favorite online comics along with cyanide & happiness.

One of the positives about doing an xkcd app is that he provides a nice rss feed that isn't horribly formatted. That's the problem I ran into with comics.com as their feeds aren't really configurable at all and are all over the place in terms of being compatible with anything. So basically I'm running a cron every night to scrape their latest data and generating my own feeds.

A thought re: custom rss feeds
I can see that many of the default apps have rss feeds hosted on boxee.tv .
For an app developer that doesn't have a webserver or buy hosting,
what are the options? Could boxee host a scraper script + rss along side the app or would that be too much of a can of worms?

Hey l like the layout....

Glitch...
After launching your app only a few images came up the rest had the spinning circle (see below).

I waited a long time (5 mins) and no change so I clicked on the Alley Oop one an was immediately redirected to the weather settings menu. (see below)

This test was with 9.14 on a macbook pro. All with latest updates

Update:
All comics at this point do the redirect thing.
Also the Weather settings screen is unresponsive. No options to toggle (See image)
