    Default Boxee performance for photos

    Hi,

I have around 600 photos stored in 12 directories, stored in an external HD connected to ATV (through the USB connector). I have created a local source in Boxee, that access my pictures directories in my external HD

Each time I try to see my pictures through the Boxee pictures menu, wether Boxee completely freeze or slow down considerably.

Does anyone face the same issue ?

    Thank you.

    Cedric

P.S: I have the last Boxee version, Apple TV 2.2, Mac Intel, Leopard, Wireless network, no Airport, no time capsule

Yes, I have experienced something very similar with a directory of several thousand jpegs. It seems to have something to do with the creation and display of the thumbnails because I don't have the same problem when I access the photos through the web interface.

These are 5 and 8 megapixel photos. There is a single directory in my case. It seems that not only does the creation of the thumbnails bring it to a near halt, but accessing the directory after the thumbnails have all theoretically been created (assuming that's how it works) slows things down considerably as well. As I mentioned, using the web interface to call up the photos and avoiding the ui entirely seems to work without a problem.

I also get the performance issues you guys are talking about, I'd be happy if there was a way to turn thumbnail generation off!

More annoyingly, I can't seem to display JPGs over a certain size either - even though the thumbnails generate and display just fine! When I click the photo for display I just get a black screen.

I updated to the latest Launcher (0.5) and Boxee (0.9.3964) last night. Many of my smaller photos display, but all the ones taken with my Sony Cybershot camera just give a black screen. These photos are around 3.5-5mb JPGs with a resolution of 3648x2736.

The problem happens in both Boxee and XBMC. In Boxee, I get the following in the logs when trying to view the picture.

    in boxee.log:
    [hit 'play', on photo]

Does anyone else get this? It sounds very similar to a problem mentioned here:
    http://xbmc.org/forum/showthread.php?t=35703

But I've tried this suggested fix of setting the photo display resolution lower (in XBMC) and it made no difference, still a black screen for large photos.

just bumping this thread - I'd be really curious to know if anyone else has this issue where some large photos won't display, even though the thumbnails generate fine...
