Default Problem creating ATV USB Patchstick: HTTP Error 404: Not Found

After upgrading Apple TV to 2.4, I need to reinstall Boxee--I've installed it twice before, never with a problem.

I downloaded atvusb-creator 1.0.b10 and leave all of the presets, except changing one dropdown menu to XMBC/Boxee for Mac.

When I select Create Using, however, I get this error:

    Downloading 2Z694-5573-24.dmg...
Download failed: HTTP Error 404: Not Found
You can try again to resume your download

I tried using two USB drives, both had this problem (and one of which I'd used to create hack the Apple TV in the first place).

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

This happened to me once tonight.

Open the disk utility and reformat the usb drive.

    Reboot the computer

Rerun the creator and everything should be fine

Also, for the dmg you want the file .dmg not the actual disk image itself that gets mounted.

The error you mention is an HTTP 404 error. Seems more like a network issue than a patch-stick issue. Because it is hitting the boxee server to download the Boxee update.

    Wikipedia:
"The 404 or Not Found error message is a HTTP standard response code indicating that the client was able to communicate with the server but the server could not find what was requested. 404 errors should not be confused with "server not found" or similar errors, in which a connection to the destination server could not be made at all."

So, you're connecting..but the server is not giving up the file at that time. By now, I bet you've since connected and got the file to download?

Default Thanks, but still having problem

Thanks all--I tried your suggestions but am still having problems.

loonymike: Thanks! I downloaded the .dmg file to my desktop and used that for the install. Creating the USB drive, however, seems to have stalled: it's gone on for 40 minutes, and the progress bar has been stopped halfway for about the last 35 minutes. I ended up just quitting the program as it never took that long previously.

jlubenow: I tried what you suggested, but had no luck. I went to Disk Utilities > Thumb drive > Erase and selected MS-DOS (FAT) for the Volume Format, which was the default option. Was that the correct choice?

judgeschambers: Sorry, I'm still getting the same error message, meaning that I'm still unable to connect.

I'm getting the same error. Has been happening for hours. Just got my ATV today and main reason I want it is for Boxee content connection. Doing everything I can find to make this work. Finally tried running the batch file from DOS which allowed me to read the error message. Here it is in detail:

    The End

Anyone have any ideas as to what is happening? Did Apple shut this down?

Have you checked the comments at the ATVusb-creator issue tracker?

    http://code.google.com/p/atvusb-crea.../detail?id=342

It says you need to download the ATV 2.4 image yourself.

I had a similar issue with the ATV and there was a modified batchfile to wget the 2.4 image. Might also solve your problem.

    Good luck!
