If i can't use hulu i'll just use tvrss.net or feedmytorrent.com
with feedmytorrent you can make a single rss of every show you like, drop that on the boxee rss link from the boxee home page and you will get all your shows

If you are opening the application and receiving the message about Hulu asking to be removed - you are not opening the plugin correctly.
The plugin will not return this error, so the error you're getting is from Boxee's built in Hulu support, which is entirely different.
This sort of confusion comes largely from naming conflicts - the plugin is called Hulu, and the official Hulu implementation is called Hulu.
To be sure that you're opening the right one, it might help to name the source differently, like "HuluPlugin" or something similar. Also note that the icon for the plugin will have a black background, whereas the non-functional Hulu app will have a gray background. For a more visual explanation, refer to this screenshot.
If you're getting a "Failed to retrieve..." error, then it would help to post your log, because that's a very generic error that can mean just about anything. It's really hard to do tech support over a forum, so if you want to try to figure this out over IM, I'd be willing to help with diagnosing problems (while I'm still awake), and hopefully we can get this working for everyone.

How to do it in Ubuntu
Here's how I got the plugin working in Ubuntu:
Copy the Hulu folder inside the zip to /opt/boxee/plugins/video/
Open up the file /opt/boxee/plugins/video/Hulu/resources/lib/common.py
Locate on approximately line 200 the following code
Code:
for index, cookie in enumerate(cj):
print index +' : '+ cookie
Change this to:
Code:
for index, cookie in enumerate(cj):
print index
print ' : '
print cookie
I noticed in the log file that python was complaining about mismatched data types on that line. Breaking them up solves the problem. Not sure if python on Windows is a little more forgiving or what.
Go to Setup > Applications in Boxee and add the new hulu plugin.
Go to Change Settings in the Applications and enter your hulu username and password.
I did have a problem playing one show. I have tried two others so far and both of those are working. The one that didn't, there was another python error in the log so that should be possible to be tracked down and fixed as well.

"content provider:" i have this great idea. lets take what could conceivably be my biggest potential revenue stream in the next few years and cut it off.
makes sense.

The last few posts of this thread are exactly what the suits don't get. If they would allow boxee/hulu to have a relationship they would have at least some control or chance at one. By pulling the same stomping of their feet you can't do this or that stragy. They are only forcing people to work around them instead of with them. Sorry but the as the saying goes the cats out of the bag.

I can confirm that the plugin works in OS-X 10.5 , but it wasn't as simple as I thought it'd be because Boxee was acting up a bit - so here's exactly what I did, in case you run into the same difficulties.
Not in Boxee yet..
Extracted the archive and renamed the 'Hulu' folder to 'HuluPlugin' (This isn't entirely necessary, but makes everything less confusing)
Went to Applications in Finder, and under the context menu for Boxee clicked 'Show Package Contents'
Navigated to Contents/Resources/Boxee/plugins/video/
Copied the 'HuluPlugin' folder in there.
Now I open up Boxee.
I went to Settings>Applications>Update / Remove . Selected the Hulu entry that was already in there and selected 'Remove Source' (Because that's the old Hulu version that doesn't work anymore)
Back in the Applications settings menu, I select 'Add New' , and selected the 'HuluPlugin' entry
Selected the 'Video' checkbox and then clicked the 'Add' button.
At this point I thought I was done, but I wasn't, because boxee added the application incorrectly. So this next step is very important --
Went back to the Settings menu. Now I select 'Media Sources and Applications' and then click 'Local Sources'. I can see 'HuluPlugin' here, so I select that and then I edit the text-box called 'Source Location' and change it so that it says 'plugin://video/HuluPlugin/'
Now it works.
I think I'm going to install Ubuntu tomorrow, and then I'll be able to document how I got Win/Mac/Linux to all work with this plugin. Unfortunately I do not have an AppleTV, so that's a tougher case.

Raises hand
I completely agree with you content providers need to change this is not the 80s or 90s anymore. Right now I think the majority of cable companies are running scared and rightfully they should be.
I personally didn't really have much of a problem with the commercials in hulu as they were normally quite short. Honestly I find the whole thing silly on their part.

Alright, here's some perfect windows alpha steps: - Shut down boxee and delete this folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\[Windows User]\Application Data\BOXEE\userdata\apps\hulu
- Download the zip file and extract it.
- Copy the "Hulu" (inner) directory contents so that they reside in:
C:\Program Files\Boxee\plugins\video\Hulu
- If you want a nicer application logo that doesn't have a black bg and matches your other apps, download the attached zip file and extract Default.tbn. Replace the one in your new "Hulu" plugin directory. It's the old hulu app image.
- Start boxee and go to Settings > Applications > Remove > hulu.
- Once that's removed, go to Settings > Applications > Add > Hulu. Note the capital H here and not the old lowercase hulu.
- The source is Video.
- Done.
