Default Unable to do factory reset

I've been having problems with my boxee not starting up beyond the green logo screen.

Reading through the forum here the best thing to try is doing a factory reset. However, I cannot even do that. I power down the box and power source. Holding the boxee power button, I turn on the power. However, instead of getting the factory reset screen, the boxee powers down after about three seconds of holding the button.

Do I have a bad boxee box?

    Thank you.

Power off the box. On the physical box itself press and hold down the power button for 6-8 seconds and release. When you release the button the Boxee light should turn on kinda orange I believe. See if recovery menu comes up. If it does, do a factory restore.

Yes, I have tried this many times, but as I mentioned, I cannot make it to the 6-8 seconds. Within 2-3 seconds the box shuts down. I never see the light change color. It is green for a few secs and then off.

Is the box definitely off (with no light) before you hold the button down? The box will shut down after a few seconds if you hold down the button when it is turned on (in case it completely locks up). It needs to be completely off to be able to enter the recovery menu to do a factory reset.

Plug the box in, turn on whatever the power source is, so that the box has power going to it, but is not on. DO NOT touch or hold down the power button while doing this.

Once the box has power going into it, and is still turned off, NOW hold the power button down on the top of the box for 6-8 seconds and let go. You might have to try a couple times to get the 6-8 seconds right.

Some electronic devices do get reset by holding down the power button and then supplying power while holding down the power button. The Boxee Box does not work that way.
